there you go. was it good for you?

By boob I meant a colloquial word for a woman's breast, not an "informal" boob, as in "who is the boob that came up with that outfit?"

Are we sure that's not what we're actually seeing with the threat ganglia, and Saru was just covering for every time he got a Kelpian boner with a diversion to a fake threat?
Ariam walks by Saru. Saru's ganglia extend. Ariam notices, tilts her head, makes whirring noises.
Ariam: "Commander, may I ask why your threat ganglia react every time I am in your presence. What is it about me that makes you believe death is approaching?"
Saru hastily pushes ganglia back in his head.
Saru: "Nothing. No reason at all."

Picard was nude in Chain of Command and that somethin' like 1993. 25 years ago now. It's old hat. I don't need to see it and I don't need to see it just for the sake of seeing it either.

Fun fact: Patrick Stewart insisted on filming that scene actually nude, in order to better get in the mindset of his character. It must've been really awkward on set.

Only in the USA is there enough "Puritanism" left in society for there to be consternation and/or elation over a naked body showing up in a TV show.
Kinda silly if ya ask me, people everywhere have been screwing around naked since the dawn of man...
... but God forbid somebody actually acknowledges it in a public forum.
SMH

Having worked in a Hospital for over forty years now, believe me when I tell you, the "titillation factor' of a naked body, wears off pretty quickly.
I stopped paying attention about 2 weeks into the job.

Nudity doesn't bother me. But, I'm tired of treating it like a special event. It isn't.
It's not about whether one is a prude regards nudity. Same goes for the insert moment of cool profanity. It's the need to tick that box. That's why a character swearing on Discovery seemed out of place. Because it was. IF someone swears they tend to pepper their conversation here and there with it. So to be more realistic we actually should have had more casual profanity. Instead there was this one 'set up' scene that really seemed (to me) stupid and try hard. It didn't offend my delicate sensibilities just my appreciation for believable writing.

Nudity if it is done to tick a box or try to be edgy could be just as painful. It has been done before yeah? Usually a sex scene. Though getting out of a shower would be probably as believable in story. I recall too in a Voyager episode Janeway was going through some rituals to try and save Kes. She was stripped in that but it wasn't really shown or gratuitous. And of course we had a fully clothed Seven that many couldn't get passed being gratuitously sexy. I just think to have nudity JUST to see someone naked (read oooh I want to see Tilly naked or I want to see Ash naked) is cheap.

In Star Trek everything is a major event. When Tilly (and everyone forgets Stamets) said the word "fuck" the Interwebz exploded. If/when we actually see some real boobs (i am not talking about klingon fake pair) the whole of internet Trek Fandom (so basically this forum, Reddit and couple youtubers) will lose it's collective mind.

Since people are willing to lose all control of their mental faculties over a 2-min "bonus scene" and things like the light level on the sets...I tend to agree with your assessment.

I'd also like to think we can see the people whose professional role it is to act on the show as having slightly more worth than simply being there to take their clothes off for our gratification.

When someone says "I hope we see such a character naked" it sounds like a kid in a sweet shop pointing a grubby finger and saying "I want that one", treating that person as a thing to be consumed by an entitled child who sees them as nothing other than an object on the screen. There are plenty of places on the internet one can browse images of people and pick which one to reduce to nothing but flesh to drool over without people reducing trek to the same.

I don't like the character Tilly at all but it is not necessary to have her naked like it's another string to her bow. For some reason that attitude kind of irritated me today.

I scrolled down the first few of those - Basic Instinct, Eyes Wide Shut, Boogie Nights. Yeah there might be a good reason for nudity in those

You know if we are serious about nudity in season 2 we can do something about it. Lets pledge now to watch all season 2 episodes in the nude! Why do only the fictional characters get to wear their birthday suits during the episodes?

Jason

Yes, that, as well. Which is why I think it is stupid, ridiculous and annoying.
Well, I would have broadened the spectrum of people who should be naked to include more than just Tilly if anyone else on the show was attractive.

I'm down with this.
