Apparently, yes.I still don't get this, although I've heard of it. Do people actually feel the need to surround themselves solely with people who think exactly like they do?

I unfriended and disassociated myself from several people because of the 2016 Election.
Not to step on Lord Garth's toes, because I'm quite sure he could give you a detailed answer to your question, but this is a conversation best left for Miscellaneous or PMs since it has nothing to do with Discovery.I voted for Trump, and I have family and friends who did as well. And I have family and friends who voted for Clinton or third party candidates. It would never occur to me to push someone who is (for example) a close friend of multiple years, out of my live, solely over them voting differently in a election.
How does that work in some peoples heads?
Though part of me wants to include my thoughts on the matter, I can't be bothered with the ensuing tirade of abuse I'd face from fans of the show for voicing an opinion, so I'll keep quiet.
Then why even say anything? It's basiclly a non-answer.

If you actually wanted to avoid the possibility of criticism than you wouldn't have said anything instead of shouting the equivalent of "EVERYONE LOOK AT ME LOUDLY NOT HAVING AN OPINION!". As it stands you've made your opinion of the show abundantly clear but without actually saying anything of value for anyone to discuss whether someone agreed with you or not. I actually have plenty of criticisms of Discovery that I have expressed here and elsewhere and have gotten criticism in turn from fans of the show. Some people give constructive responses and some people get overly defensive. Them's the breaks when you discuss things online. But it's pretty ridiculous to bemoan the hypothetical lack of constructive responses to your hypothetical opinion while not actually giving an opinion and just playing obnoxious games.^ I've already done that when posting about my dislike of NuTrek and I'd rather not have to put up with that again.
It is convenient to be able to use ENT and Enterprise to be able to separately refer to the series and the ship without using the same term.whereas I refer to the other shows as VOYAGER, ENTERPRISE, and DISCOVERY.
Star Trek: Discothèque. But when it's crunch time, I more often than not use DISCO.

Look how long it took to settle on TOS, eventually things will shake out and the fans will settle on a convenient contraction. Just might take a while.Star Trek: Discothèque.
Actually it kind of rhymes.
I can't stand New Hope for Star Wars either.
George Lucas would reinvent the wheel if he could. That was added in 1981 by George Lucas. It's not like it was changed 20 years later (or whenever it caught on) like TOS.
Did you hate that Empire was called Episode 5?George Lucas would reinvent the wheel if he could.
Sure, more money that way.George Lucas would reinvent the wheel if he could.
Retroactive (forward active??) abbreviations annoy me. Like TOS started its life as Star Trek. It's not its fault that it spawned a franchise and then had to be called Original Series. I can't stand New Hope for Star Wars either.
