Any news on the Battlestar Galactica movie?

A year ago I heard a new Battlestar Galactica movie was going to be made, but since then I have heard nothing else about it. Does anyone here know any information on a new movie coming out?

If you're thinking this (it's from 2014):

Glen Larson (the person behind the original 1978 series, and the one pushing this film) - passed away later that same year:

So, at this point 4 years later, it's either dead, or in development hell I would imagine.

It's dead, Jim.

Let's hope it stays that way; bringing back the 1970's version 'just 'cause' of Star Wars and Star Trek isn't a great idea (and the old version's not as well-remembered by a lot of people [by that I mean the wider public that would be the ones who would see this planned movie.])

I've lost count of how many times this had been announced, only to just fade away into nothingness. The first time (2000-01) was due to the events of 9-11, with a new movie/show about a sneak attack being a little too fresh in people's minds, but leveraged for the 2003 mini series, but taken in a different direction. Then we had about 3 similar announcements over the years since NuBSG ended, all helmed by Bryan Singer who, each time, abandoned the project for the sake of other projects, like X-Men (understandable), then Superman Returns (not so much) and then after that a rumored Munsters remake (Really? Fucking MUNSTERS?!?) which also didn't go anywhere - shocker! Then there was this most recent (fourth) announcement, that also seemed to show Singer being at least tangentially involved, which by this point, I knew to be the kiss of death. Now that he seems to be embroiled in the whole Hollywood sexcapades kerfuffle, I think he's finally out of the picture, but I don't think anyone else has really shown the interest.

At the end of the day, I think the ultimate reason it never got made is that Universal didn't want to foot the bill for it, as it would have meant being forced to pay Glen Larson a metric ass-ton of royalties since he kept ownership of the feature film license until he died. Larson couldn't have done it himself and needed studio backing. After he died in November 2014, his estate settled with Universal by December 2015 and sold them the license (along with Knight Rider and others). That most recent announcement came a couple of months after that happened, which is why I thought that maybe this time they were serious about it. They started getting some promising-looking people in like Lisa Joy, Francis Lawrence, Scott Stuber, Dylan Clark and Michael De Luca. but in trots Singer's name in February 2016 and >>>POOF!<<< All done. By the time 2017 came around it was just another lost franchise. :(

Francis Lawrence talks Battlestar Galactica movie

ComingSoon.net: Is “Battlestar” still looming?

Francis Lawrence: Yeah, I’m working on that, that’s something I’m developing. I’m working on that with Lisa Joy, who is one of the creators of “Westworld.” The original series was actually one of the first sets that I ever went on. I remember being a kid and loving that show and they were filming near my house and my mom took me down there and I got to try on a Cylon helmet.

after that a rumored Munsters remake (Really? Fucking MUNSTERS?!?)
If your referring to Mockingbird Lane that actually did get a pilot, which aired on NBC shortly before Holloween in 2012. I actually thought it was pretty good, and was a bit disappointed it never went beyond the pilot.

It seems like Singer has a very short attention span, lack of commitment or else he doesn't work & play well with others.

There'll come a time when nobody wants to commit to him anymore, no matter what he's done.

Well, the first couple of times made sense... X-Meen we know it was a success..i was certainly anticipating great things from HIS SUperman movie, so the failure was a surprise to me for sure. Not sure about the last couple of times.

He's a good director...but yeah, these misfires, and now the allegations might be the end of it. Too bad...such a waste of talent.

These allegations should just be that, allegations, and be nothing used to wreck his career ala the McCarthy/HUAC business of the late '40's and early-to-mid '50's (whatever happened to 'innocent until proven guilty'?)

Sadly, due process seems to have taken a permanent backseat to the court of public opinion. All it takes is an accusation any more these days and the MSM has fashioned/coronated itself as judge, jury and executioner.

It went out with the advent of the internet.

Didn't really ever understand the specific need for this reboot other than that C(r)aprica and Blood and Chrome tanked. BSG really should be a series that takes the time to explore themes. A standalone film would likely be an action-heavy affair.

Expanding on what form it will take, Lawrence clarified: "Yes it's a re-imagining, it's not a continuation of the series, it's a standalone piece."

Given the increasing and long overdue diversity of representation on screen and the TV series' tendency for gender switching, could the movie live up to that? "Yes absolutely 100 per cent!" he continued. "I'm not going to give any details but 100% there's room for that."
So apparently no continuation of either TV series, but will have nods to both in some fashion. I expect we'll see a token artifact of an original Cylon Centurion. The re-imagined Cylon Centurions in the reboot series were excellent... and I'd hope they'd utilize that design, if licensing permits. I was ambivalent about the reworked Battlestar ship design, though. I'd prefer to see that become some hybrid of the old and reboot designs.

I'd be happy with anything to this point, but I doubt anything will happen now. The interest just isn't there.

Francis Lawrence talked about it back in February, but nothing since then. I'm not so sure it's going to happen.
