Also, TNG civilian attire. All of it. DS9 wasn't great (its super 90's), but i could imagine someone with exceptionally bad taste wearing most of those outfits. TNG was a particular kind of awful. Nobody would wear those things. Ever.

I thought the Siskos dressed exceptionally well, especially those vest outfits Cirroc Loften would wear.

Agreed. Though no episode of any Trek series has aged as badly as some of the decades old discussions and arguments that I see being hashed and re-hashed on this forum.

For those who are relatively new to the board:

Today's highlight is spoiler protocol, now that we have a new Trek production putting out episodes. Yeah, there's a new shiny and you wanna talk about it, but don't assume that everyone has seen it as soon as you have.

Borrowing from the rules that have been pinned in SF&F since Dubya was in office:

• There should never be spoilers in thread titles.
  
• If your thread contains or is likely to contain spoilers, please indicate that in the title, so folks looking to avoid spoilers can avoid them.
  
• If you bring spoiler discussion into a regular thread, please use the spoiler code.
  
• The statute of limitations on whether to consider an episode/film free of spoilers is SIX MONTHS from the time when it first airs, wherever it first airs. If a new episode of a series or film airs on June 1st in England then on Aug. 1st in the US, the clock starts ticking on June 1st.

I'm bumping this again because I've had to edit spoilers for Discovery several times recently.

The 6 month rule is in effect. The first episode aired Sept 24th, so the earliest you could post unhidden spoilers in this forum would be March 24th 2018. And that's only for the first episode.

PLEASE do not post DSC spoilers in this forum! That means you!

To be blunt, TOS has aged badly. All of it. I still love it, and will always go back and watch it, but yeah.

Any episode that attempted to predict future events within our lifetimes - the Eugenics wars, World War 3, Fermat's theorem, references to the USSR, Leningrad etc.

There was that amusing scene in the hut in "The Apple". Everyone was hemming and hawing when the topic of replacements, sexual reproduction came up. I guess the tv standards were prudish back then.

I don't know... They pulled the evil bisexuality again with mirror-Georgiou and I'm torn on how they handled Culber's death. Time will tell on the latter.

Jeri Ryan didn't seem to mind, and she was banging her boss too. I guess personal responsibility has gone out of favor.

What does one have to do with the other? Dressing the female characters in sexy catsuits is sexist. There was no need story wise for those uniforms.

Eh... where ya gonna find love these days if not the office? Since she was the most compelling character on the show, I doubt her being with Braga resulted in any special favors. It was Garrett Wang who should have been banging the boss for more screen time. ☺

Oh God no. His screen time was painful enough as is.

It's Adam West Batman without the wink and nudge. It's camptastically awful-awesome. Not sure who said it first, but I stand by the sentiment that the worst TOS movie is better than the best TOS episode. I love me some Undiscovered Country, tho.

That’s fair. It was about as subtle as a ball peen hammer. On the other hand, future generations might learn about the end of the Cold War through this film. Everything I know about Moby Dick came from “the doomsday machine”

Nick Meyer won the Cold War. Gene Roddenberry took credit for it, then Ronald Reagan stole it.

I've never gotten somber fatalism from TUC. On the contrary, it seems to be very optimistic about the future. Kirk realizes that he was wrong to be pessimistic about peace between the Federation and the Klingons. ("People can be very frightened of change.")

But Meyer has said that he finds the film a bit naive now, so he probably agrees with you that it wasn't as profound as it could have been.
