USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

It doesn't look anywhere near accurate to my eye. If that's the actual profile, though, it will lose points from me.

It's not. Like a lot of people have said, I'm pretty sure that the profile proportions most closely match the TMP refit. I really wonder how they came up with those proportions, though. So far MadMan's model on FB looks like the closes thing I've seen.

The 05 version did not look cheap, but it did look dated and in the incorrect art style. It simply did not fit, this is not an opinion, its simply a design fact.
Is that your opinion? Because it reads like an opinion. :nyah:

Whether or not something "fits" is ultimately an artistic choice. Unfortunately for you, that choice was not yours. Maybe you can get a job on the next show and they'll let you make those artistic choices. Probably not, but hey. It's worth a try. Send in a resume. :techman:

The fact it is not the same artstyle as post TMP is not an opinion. This is simply a fact. Not getting pulled back into this, but everyone here knows its not the same art style.

So, in your opinion, it would have been better if you had made the artistic choice? That's my takeaway from all of this. You'll most assuredly disagree. :techman:

Luckly, the design team, and production staff with degrees in this subject, agreed with reality and updated to a modern art style.

The DSC Connie still looks less advanced then the TMP Connie.
That's ok as we are introduced to the TMP Connie in 2271 and Discovery is set in the mid to late 2250's.

Well over 10 years apart, plenty of time for a refit in between to explain the differences away.

Okay, the obvious question here is this: why would you want the Defiant (or for that matter the original Enterprise), which is self-evidently not a post-TMP ship, to look like it was designed with a post-TMP art style? If it's a period piece and you change it, that's called getting the period wrong.

Unless you just really don't like the pre-TMP art style. But that's, y'know, a matter of personal opinion...

So, one of the few times the production team was right? O_o

Opinion is irrelevant. TOS style is irrelevant. You will be assimilated. :techman:
Hey, someone already won the Internet. Stop trying so hard ;)

Seeing how this series is set in the future and not in the past, it is not actually a period piece.

Because its not the 1960s and that art style went out with the 60s.

I love the original Enterprise, maybe even too much. I think it worked great in DS9 and ENT as a ship of a different era, but I think that as a ship of the "present day" of the series, it needed to at least mostly fit with the look of the other ships. That's what they've done, made it mostly fit in with the other ships of its own era.

This statement does not jive with the constant arguing about what looks more "futuristic."

It in fact does, one art style is dated, one is currently In trend so does not look dated. Trek tossed the Atomic age style in 79. Sure a homage got used here and there, but the show itself did not use that style after TOS. This was because styles changed. This was also why the uniforms from TMP were ditched after, because it was on trend at the time, a few sci-fi movies had something very much like it. But went out of style fast.
