After binging through the 2nd half of the season this afternoon, I have to say it's not a whole lot different from the 1st half, it's above average TV fare and mediocre Star Trek. Without a doubt Discovery's first season is the 2nd best first season of all the series, TOS being the best simply by the sheer number of really good episodes they had. But when you consider the first season of the other four which were absolutely putridly horrid (thankfully they all got better) then being ranked ahead of that sorry ass bunch of first seasons isn't a big deal.

And of course they have to kill off my favorite character, Lorca. I was hoping he'd magically reappear but I guess he's dead, which in Star Trek doesn't always mean a whole lot. Maybe he's the captain they're picking up on Vulcan next season. LOL

I loved seeing the Enterprise, even if for only a second. Oh well, off to Amazonto cancel my free 3 day trial subscription for CBSAA. But not before I go look at the Enterprise again. :)

I gotta agree, I Mean I probably "enjoy" ds9 season 1 more, but in many ways Disco may be better though.

all i know is it's going to be a long wait for season 2. has it been confirmed that it's going to air in 2019? or will they do what they did for S1 and air part 1 in Fall 2018 and Part 2 in 2019?

I feel like this episode needed to be longer, or two parts.

Longer so as to iron out some of the mess they'd made of it. The writers were boxed into a corner by being forced to write a forty-five minute episode that was to've cleared up practically every loose end in the seasons. Not knowing if they were getting a second season, my guess is that they did what they could but, frankly, it certainly could've used at least another half hour, preferably an hour. Then they might've been able to write something that didn't seem so rushed and undeservedly tidy in its resolution.

Where were the gold spikes on the nacelles? Are we post-Cage?

Also, yeah, that awards ceremony was supercheezy. Bummed we don't get Capt Saru, though maybe the emergency will void out the new capt. plot.

This is 2 years after Cage so it’s possible it had another refit.

The Cage was 2 years before the start of the season, so yes.

Nope.

It was amateur night.

Well, not quite even that. There are folks doing this work for fun on art sites all over the Internet who've done a great deal better work with the Enterprise than this. What the STD people did was minimal and crude. The ship may be the most frequently recreated ship in the last quarter century.

There's been a lot better stuff posted in these topics in the last couple of weeks (okay, not Gabe's...).
Yep (as in I've seen so much better just browsing around the web for Enterprise beauty shots I may want to use as wallpaper). I paused the screen and looked at it for a while. It almost looks like it's a matte painting, and I doubt it was supposed to.

I guess in early or mid 2019 we'll see the reconciliation between the look and feel of Discovery's bridge and the gum drops buttons and dining room chairs bridge of the Enterprise. It will no doubt illicit some frank and interesting discussions.

They might have a "no Spock cameo" rule for Discovery though, so Enterprise might have a different first officer, like this one: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Number_One
They’ll probably have Pike in the view screen with Michael’s brother in the background, blurry, looking into his science station binocular thing.
I'll be really surprised if they do that, without at least giving it a try; I can't believe CBS is a misguided as Warner Brothers.

I fully suspect that the show will appear on Netflix in the US (And Canada?) in the weeks leading up to season 2, to try and garner more interest - running ads about the return of Spock to TV along side would make for an even bigger push. Seeing the Enterprise was a lot of fun, but Pike is really more of a novelty and of little interest to casuals, really. Spock is definitely the hook to be had.

Plus there's a lot of story potential. I don't think it's a coincidence they placed Sarek on the bridge. I would even say there's a good chance the events of the primer end up laying the groundwork for their rift in Babel.

But, as I said, the caveat is if they can. I think it will ultimately come down to casting. We're talking about one of the most idolized fictional characters of the 20th century. The recasting lighting has already struck once. They may not want to risk it a second time. At least not so soon. Or they might just throw up their hands and offer the job to Parsons.

I'm rating this one an 8, which is about where I'd leave the season. It wasn't as much pure fun as some of the previous episodes have been (Ensign Tilly being the obvious exception), but the good stuff outweighed the bad. I mean, the visit to the Orion market was everything we SHOULD have seen back in "Broken Bow."

And I'm glad Emperor Phillipa is going to be running around causing trouble. I'm glad we still have the chance for Yeoh to appear. Perhaps teaming up with Mudd.

Nah Spock said he hadn’t talked to his father longer between now and Babel

Spock served with Pike for 11 years so they can’t do too much. They’ll probably just say he’s on leave.
