Ok, what I'm about to say is FULL SPECULATION on my part. Not from a source. But do you guys remember the rumor back in Sept. that Aiden Gillien had been cast in DSC?

I think he could work as Pike. (It's kinda old pic, but I tried to find one with a pikeish hair style.) And he is a really good actor, so he will be a welcome addition regardless the role.

They missed an opportunity to have him on the Emperor's ship (fighting for the throne) so he could throw someone out the moon door....
That being said, he could work as Pike. It would be interesting if season 2 of Discovery included the Enterprise, and we eventually get to see Pike's Delta radiation incident. This, of course, means we need a recurring Spock as well. In fact:

Well, they did set a precedent of effects shots being difficult to follow.
