Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

If by "taking risks" you mean "made bad decisions", then I'll agree with you. I don't believe for a single moment that WB's intent was to "take risks" with these properties. They were hoping for a slam dunk.

I think you are probably right. After Superman Returns, the internet was crying out for a villain Superman can fight in a hand to hand slugfest. Zack Snyder offered them exactly that, and his movie made significantly more money than Superman Returns. When BvS was pitched, they had no real reason not to give it to Snyder. Being bald didn't have much, if anything, to do with their decision-making.

First official synopsis for Shazam! was released yesterday:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Sounds like it could be fun.
This is not correct. With few exceptions, Marvel Studios' films are generic action pieces with little to no substance thst get churned out and make money because of the adage "if it ain't broken, don't fix it".
I think you must not paying very close attention, because I've always thought the Marvel movies had a lot of substance to them. I've been really happy with how well developed their characters are.

Waiting for kirk to come tell us how terrible this is.

Sorry not everyone has opinions you agree with. If it offends you so much, maybe you shouldn't post on a forum.

But, yeah, the synopsis is exactly what I thought it would be. Calling him "streetwise" is probably code for "teen asshole". But, the biggest issue is calling him a "foster". Billy Batson was only a foster kid in Geoff Johns shit run. Well, technically he may have been fostered by his sisters adopted family after they found each other (I think Jerry Ordway's classic Power of Shazam did that, eventually) but the real Billy Batson gets kicked out of his home (usually by an evil uncle) and lives on the street while hiding his situation from, say, school. He doesn't get put into a foster home, outside of that piece of shit version Geoff Johns wrote.

so, yeah, the garbage version of Shazam is confirmed. It was already guaranteed because Geoff Johns is helping run the DCEU and he never wrote anything related to Captain Marvel even remotely well, but this is basically official confirmation.

Also, he "has fun" with the powers? Yeah, we're getting that shit Johns wrote. He'll be shaking down the people he saves for money, and probably do some fucked up pervert shit like try to be a peeping tom. I swear, WB is going to have to lose the GDP of a small country before they learn to hire capable people to make these damn movies and not just hire idiots to throw literal crap at the screen thinking it will make a good movie.

Well there is clearly no urgency, since they haven't lost any money at all yet. They are surely leaving money on the table, but none of their movies have been money losers yet.

DC needs to find talented Directors and Actors willing to play ball instead of control freaks and prima donna ones who refuse to do anything but one-shots.

Marvel's been having similar issues, but they rule their universe with more of an iron fist. Any actor or director who doesn't play ball gets kicked out.

Norton and Rourke were Divas who couldn't play ball (and Rouke wanted the movie to be about him and not Iron Man), and Edgar Wright got kicked out for wasting time nothing staying on schedule. Terence Howard was greedy.

Everyone else was able to work together.

That's what I said. It's not Marvel's fault that some people didn't like working for Marvel.

Anyway, ...

Hoping that this could be the DC Extended Universe’s answer to Deadpool, TheWrap reports Warner Bros. has met with the Transformers director, who provided some notes to guide screenwriter Jason Fuchs in his rewrite. Once that’s complete, Bay and the studio will determine whether a deal can be struck.

This does not inspire confidence in the future of the DCEU IMHO.

As for Marvel Studios and issues with creators, this is something that happens with every studio. There have been 20 MCU movies and I would say that Marvel's track record with creators is very good. They may have replaced a director and an actor or two, and butted heads with a few others, but they've never had to replace a director mid-production like Lucasfilm and WB have. James Gunn certainly has nothing but praise for the Marvel collaborative process.

Except for Zack Snyder on JL, WB didn't have to, either. And while I wouldn't say there were no issues with Snyder, him dropping out had nothing to do with any problems he might have had with WB.

Indeed. Forgive me for mis-speaking. However, the studio interference and changes demanded to JL that proceeded Snyder's departure go far beyond anything that has happened with any Marvel Studios production.
