I don't get why Sarek would bargain so easily with the emperor and how did he convince Cromwell it was a good idea.

I think this is the episode where the whole series just lost me

Sometimes, genocide is logical. Or, at least DIscovery would have you believe so. It certainly fits with Sarek's character which was established in the first episode of the season.

This is my new favorite episode. The ship is becoming more and more like a family, it feels more Star Trekky if that makes any sense beyond the subjective, and I like how everything seems to be integrating into a more smoothly executed experience. On to some notable moments for me:

* The scene where Tyler enters the mess hall is particularly notable, in my opinion, for showing the crew acting like people with compassion. First Tilly (my heart thumps), then Detmer, and finally other crew members join in, and I had such a warm feeling. I actually got misty eyed, because it just felt right. It was wholly different from when Michael first arrived on board. I think that says a lot about the command style between Lorca and Saru. The atmosphere of the ship has changed, and I think for the better. I say that as someone who liked Lorca.

* The encounter between Stamets and Tyler was well done. To me, it looked like Paul was fighting hard not to do anything, or step over a line, like he knew this person, Ash, wasn't fully in control when it happened, but it still doesn't take away from the fact that he murdered Paul's husband. I think that was so very well done.

* The scene between Sarek and Michael was well played. I can feel the relationship they have between each other, and I got teary eyed when Sarek said "I love you" in every way except those words. Beautifully done on both counts, in my opinion.

* The breakup scene. I liked it. Obviously, even if intellectually Michael understands what happened, the fact is that the man she loved tried to kill her. She experienced that trauma, and it's not just going to go away after one or two episodes. Whether or not they'll get back together remains to be seen, but it's all up in the air at this point, where it should be, IMO.

* I loved the spore implantation scene. It felt like they truly were creating something beautiful, and it gave me vague echoes of what would become the Genesis device. Not that I'm saying it's connected, just faint echoes that reminded me of that particular story line. The effects from that scene were nicely rendered, too.

* When the reveal for Georgiou happened, I wasn't expecting her to be Captain, until I saw they were having her wearing the uniform, and then they followed it up with the story of Georgiou simply being captured and released, I knew shit was about to roll downhill very quickly. I'm anxious to see how this all plays out.

This episode gets an easy 10 for me. It had some action, well executed dialogue, nice visuals, and more importantly, a lot of genuine heart. This seems like the kind of Starfleet crew I want to know more about, to empathize with. Again, the mess hall scene really clinched it for me. Can't wait to see the finale next week.

This was a highly character-driven show and one of the better "finale set-up episodes" I've seen in a long time.

It got my blood pumping and hit a lot of different emotions in just the right way. It flew by, which meant I was 100% engaged. I'm really confused about how they are going to wrap the arc up in just one more episode. It seems like a lot to cover in a 50-minute period.

9/10 for this one. Very good stuff.

I've grown to really like the characters Stamets, Tilly, and Saru (and I liked Lorca). The biggest complaint I still have about the series is way, way, way too much of the story is carried by exposition.

Also, especially if this war was just the background being used by producers to build character arcs around, it is becoming so very big and costly to the Federation that it's becoming hard to believe that in just about ten years, no one will even give it a passing mention -- especially the veterans. I guess someone needs to go back to 1966 and put a few remarks about it into some TOS scripts. :)

It seems a bit of a cheat that the person who was the most important captain to Starfleet's war effort, Lorca, turned out to be an evil guy from the MU, and now with him gone and the outcome of the war in jeopardy, they secretly turn to the MU's Emperor Georgiou to lead them.

Voted a six on this one. First one in a while that I felt was something of a misfire. The more they try to explain how the mycelial drive works, the sillier it becomes to me. I was hoping last week might be the last we would see of it. Definitely hope it's not back next season.

Really didn't like the suggestion that the Federation is about to commit genocide.

Fortunately, next week's preview makes it seem like it may not happen.

Genocide?

They're mapping Kronos so they can strike military targets. They aren't putting red matter in the planet or anything.

The Ash, Burnham "Romance" (they both have the chemistry of oil and water and are both extremely flat boring characters) is the worst aspect of this show, I just started browsing the internet instead pretty much every time Ash was on screen and god that Burnham/Ash scene, 5 seconds in and already looking at other stuff.
Hopefully Ash and Burnham will die in the next episode and we get a good cast for S2.
The Ash/Burnham scene in this episode was absolutely atrocious. It just kept droning on and on. Terrible writing and dialog.

Especially because it was as if they were saying "Archer was totally on Qu'nos, but that Augment shit never happened."

I am confident that eventually they'll explain why the Klingons look different, or they'll just show regular-looking Klingons at some point and not explain why they look different like in the one DS9 episode. One or the other.

Maybe they will make up for all those short episodes by having the finale be 3 hours long :D
