They’re going to have to retcon this war surely. I don’t remember Kirk saying that he was in a Klingon war during this time.

I'm giving this a 7/10. Too many questions, not enough answers. I understand it's a buildup for the season finale but they should have given us the last episode right after this one.

So they keep the whole Terran thing secret because they don’t want people knowing about alternate versions of themselves. That’s okay I guess but what makes Kirk’s visit any different? They tell everyone after that. All it took was one line to Bashir from Kira and he knew instantly where they were. :)

Not only was that one of the best episodes I've ever seen, that was one of the best STAR TREK episodes I've ever seen!
Discoverys come a long way since "The Vulcan Hello", but for the first time since that one I really felt like this IS Star Trek! Yay! :)

It was mentioned that he used to be a great military commander in one episode
Kirk? You might be right but I always thought they were just skirmishes back then. Kirk’s real foe back then were gaseous vampire clouds. I’m surprised they haven’t had the Discovery take that away from him as well. :)

Captain Georgio thing is not a good thing at all. I have a bad feeling about this. I don't see how Cromwell could want to take Lorca's command and yet give Discovery to Georgio.

Could this be mirror Cromwell who happened to be on Discovery and escaped?

This Spore Drive nonsense is way too OP. I wonder what they do to it to get it destroyed.

It’s just not the same without Lorca.
All this show seems to be doing is stealing Kirk’s thunder.

We won't get a Kirk-like character on this series anyway. Producers of Discovery would be against it.

Kirk is too much of a straight-male power character, like Bruce Wayne or James Bond. I think the producers feel that would threaten the 'strong female' leads and the female empowerment angle. So instead we have Lorca the 'deplorable' villian, and Tyler the wimp.

The reason a film like Wonder Woman was so liked by the general public was it managed to balance strong male and female leads, without tearing one gender down to elevate the other. Chris Pine came off ten times better in that than any of the male characters on Discovery.

Personally, I really feel this show at least needs a character like Tom Paris or Trip. A grounded every-man character to make entertaining quippy dialogue and provide some levity. Maybe season 2, but probably not.

Since nine months passed, it's safe to assume it's 2252 by now, so it's likely Kirk is back in San Francisco.

Disagree. It was the typical penultimate episode
Yup. Exactly.

This was the best season-arc penultimates I've ever seen. It had all the proper transitional framework but still hit all the right dramatic notes. Fuck, I was pillow-clinching at the end there.

Best episode of the show so far. No contest.

Very solid episode. A lot of really good character beats as the setup for the finale. I'm glad Michael and Ash's talk went the way it went and that's how it should have gone as well. Maybe that changes in the future but no way in hell should she be okay with him for many valid reasons.

The ending was something I did not expect and its going to make next week extremely interesting.

That's never a reason for why something didn't happen. Kirk's hate for Klingons in the movie era has always felt off if you just took TOS. It was clear there had to be much more to it and this war makes his and other's in Starfleet hate for the Klingons much more sense.
