Discovery Size Argument™ thread

I remember watching a Youtube review of Discovery some time last fall, and the reviewer mentioned how in a single TNG episode, in a single conversation, we are given something infinitely compelling, with an understanding and real feeling of gravity, than in this entire Klingon arc.

I don't remember who said it, but he played the clip and it rang true.

Who can guess what scene he was talking about?

I'm guessing "I didn't kill one Hunsock or a thousand. I killed them all. All Hunsock, everywhere."

It does have pylons. It's not like the nacelles are sticking straight out of the engineering "bulge". They're just really thick and may or may not have decks within them. We don't see any windows on the leading or trailing edges, so it may be uninhabited space used for tankage, seldomly access equipment, or simply voids left in the design for future expansion.

Counterpoint: Why the Constitution "so small"? The 4th wall breaking reason is that Jeffries wanted something in the real world to compare to, so he picked the biggest ships in the world at the time. There's specific cost, capability and logistical reasons why the US settled on 1,100 foot long supercarriers. By comparison, there is no clear reason, in universe, as to why the Federation would settle on 1,000 feet for this class of ship or any other.
The leading edge actually does have windows. And as I mentioned before, there these pits with windows in the middle of the pylons that are a few decks thick. I would guess there is a lot of habitable space in there.

TNG never "felt" as big to me on the interior as the classic movie Enterprise because they modified and reused the same sets. We got no looks down endless warp engine shafts or glimpses at massive rec rooms in TNG.

Picard's conversation with Garrett.

Nope,I have no clue what they say. But 20+ mins of whinning over it not looking chesp, old and fan filmish seems right.
One of them at least makes, in my opinion (but what do I know), really good 3d models. Beyond that, I tune out when they start trying to understand the nuts and bolts of how things work. I am not always entirely sure they realize there's no rhyme or reason how it works, there aren't even any toilets, it's a sci fi ship. I used to occasionally watch their videos but it became a DSC-hate node in the comments section.

Pretty much this.

I've watched some of their videos, and not heard them complain about Discovery very much. The channel is focused mostly on art design and cgi ships, and everything is talked about like they live in the Star Trek world.

I'll offer three criticisms of them.

1. (Most importantly) Their egos are far too large for even Youtube.
2. They should stick to reviewing ships and not episodes, although their episode reviews are at least predominantly focused on the ships. They should stay away from critiquing acting, plotting, writing, directing, etc.
3. Their pitch at the end of every video asking for donations always leaves a sour taste in my mouth. They either at best come off as desperate and needy, or at worst, greedy and unappreciative.

They have gotten a lot of Star Trek VFX alumni on to their show, which is awesome, but they treat many of those guests quite rudely, like asking a question, then cutting them off before that guest can finish his answer, then asking another question totally unrelated, and doing it again.

Ok, that was 4 criticisms. These are just my impressions and don't reflect on what their actual motivations are, which only they would know.

For someone who doesn't care about what they have to say you sure do bang on about what they have to say.

I've watched enough of them to know I don't want to watch any more of them. Just plain annoying, but most of those types of vids are for me.

This is sort of off topic, but...

There have been a whole bunch of Star Wars channels on Youtube(and some similar Trek channels more recently) born in the last two years that basically narrate wookiepedia articles. They have(and had from the get go) huge numbers of subscribers. They put out well edited, highly polished videos daily, and they present themselves as being the work of sole individual.

I'm convinced these were and are part of the marketing rollout by Disney/LFL in 2015. It's a conspiracy I tell ya!

Yeah, there's one called Lore Reloaded that basically just reads out Memory Alpha articles. I don't get it, it doesn't even have good graphics. It's like one guy talking over a static image.

It is because people cannot read anymore. They cannot digest information unless it is in a form of a Youtube video.

? Compared to people talking about themselves? or showing videos of themselves playing video games or that idiot who went to the suicide forest in japan?

And here on the Trek BBS there is a 27 page thread on the Enterprise Bowling alley. Pot meet kettle.
Suffice today I haven't read all of it but I have the will power to not look at things i'm not interested in. Trek yards have some interviews with designers who themselves are very passionate about star trek and their own designs. Considering the designers come back for other videos they don't seem to be that offended with the way they are questioned and I don't see any other website or youtuber who have this kind of content. It's not perfect but it's not supposed to be.

but it became a DSC-hate node in the comments section.
Avoid IMDB too, I checked out reviews there yesterday and my eyes burned.
