Discovery Size Argument™ thread

Because that is where Bryan Fuller wanted to tell his story.

Considering how little of Fuller's vision we actually ever saw (original tri-colored uniforms), and they pretty much kicked him and everything he wrote out.... the only true reason we're stuck in the prequel setting actually seems to be that they started halfway there, and didn't have the balls to cange that untill their self-set release date...

This is one of those instances where you have to wonder what they were thinking in the first place: Just WHY agree to Fuller's idea of a prequel setting, if none of the money guys actually wanted to do a true prequel setting?

Except they retained enough of Fuller's writing that they credited the teleplay of the first episode to him and the story of the first three to him. So they didn't entirely throw out what he had done. His name wouldn't still be in those credits if they had. The Writer's Guild takes that shit seriously, so studios usually take those credits seriously.

Edit: Also, Living Dead Guy Productions, Fuller's studio, is still spearheading production of the show. He's just not personally involved at the moment. But they people who are still work for Fuller.

This just helps to show how incredibly wrong the dimensions from Eaglemoss are. The blue bridge dome on the Discovery is way larger that the one on the Excelsior. In fact, it's about the size of the thing the bridge dome sits atop. I call bull on Eaglemoss, again...

That being said, I'm also willing to believe that the original (TOS) dimensions of the Enterprise weren't correct either. Maybe scale the ship(s) up so that the Constitution class is about 400-450m.

The bridge dome on Excelsior is WAY too small to begin with, and Excelsior's 467m size only works if the decks are 6' tall.

Yeah the Excelsior is an older model, back before Cryptic started putting more effort into canon designs.

The ship should however be one of the two lengths given over the years.

Based off observations made on the actual show model (mostly the shuttle bay and bridge window), 750 is accurate.

Cryptic's Crossfield is also 750 meters long, and they get their numbers from CBS.

They were even given the show's CG models, like Eaglemoss was, to make their recreations.

Yeah, that's the smaller bridge dome from Star Trek VI. In TSFS it had a much larger dome, making the ship overall appear smaller. With the revised dome the Excelsior/Enterprise-B should be well over 600m.

And that underside bridge is just *swoon*
Funnily enough, when I was a little kid in the 70s I thought Enterprise’s bridge was on the bottom of the saucer (I guess I wasn’t paying attention to how the turbolift lights moved).

The entire mirror universe arc doesn't work if you set it much further forward in the timeline, because we already know Mirror-Spock effectively destroys the empire.

Like, I get it. They bungled the Klingon War arc. They could have picked any alien or time period for that, Romulans, Tzenkethi, Sheliak, Cardassians, Breen, or somebody entirely new. They gave no reason for the question "why Klingons?". They didn't stick with the nativist theme from the pilot (which, if you remember, was very timely, some people even thought it was anti-Trump). Instead it was all very generic bad guy, which (IMO) we've seen enough from in the JJTrek and TNG films.

Mirror universe *only* works in the 23rd century or prior.

I presume I'm not the only one who's noticed those deep pits with windows that are between the secondary hull stripes. Only really noticeable on the STO model, and only a few shots in the show. I think they're pretty cool and would love if we saw one of those exterior zoom-ins to one of those windows. (sorry if this has been discussed already, good chance I missed it :P)

Referring to these in case the description was unclear.
Assuming they ARE windows, the scaling seems a bit off. They seem a bit too close together, and I don't think that part of the hull is 5 decks thick. But still an interesting design :D
