Soft? In some ways, I've grown much harder. I was much more social and easy-going back in the old days and would talk to everyone. After some unpleasant experiences with some real jackasses, I backed off of that. Life's too short. I still like people - but at a distance.

Having said that, there are some that were worth the effort. But not many.

So color me rather jaded. I'm sure that are plenty around here that don't like how I am or how I run the place and didn't like me when I was just a mod. Don't care. Of course, I didn't care back then either, so I guess that has remained constant.

One thing I did learn is that contrary to what non-Trekkies think of Trek fans, we run the gamut of personalities and are no different than the rest of humanity in spite of outsiders thinking we're a uniform group of nerds. There is a subsection of fandom that indeed fits the stereotype but the rest of us don't. Plenty of geeks too within the fandom. I think there are more of those, including me.

I'm surprised to find that people might have had problems with you. You always seemed very friendly to me. I still fondly remember the old age jokes that people would make. I would even say that you are basically the foundation of the board.

Oh, I am. But it's a fact that in life that some just won't like you. Could be bad chemistry, could be your actions, or just their way of looking at things conflicts with yours. Some hated my little (pre-avatars on the left) avatars. Fuck 'em all. ;)

Ha ha, had forgotten the old age jokes. I was 42 and felt ancient. I'll be 60 this summer. SIXTY....guess I'm never going to grow up even if the body is falling apart and the hair has changed colors more than once.

I know I made some of those old age jokes and now I am 42 and feel old and ancient. I think I die a little bit inside whenever people talk about kids not understanding something that happened in the 1990'a or even the 1980's.:) First sign you know your old is when the NFL,NBA coaches are people you remember watching play in COLLEGE during their Freshmen year. I'm also waiting for the wisdom of old age to kick in unless not talking about how horny you always are counts as wisdom.

^You're officially old when younger colleagues hold the door open for you. :D
I'll turn 54 in a few weeks and don't feel ancient at all. (Funny, though: everyone wants to become old, yet nobody wants to be old).
I think one ought to have high standards, live up to one's ideals and ignore the inevitable flamers, trolls, morons and stalkers. If there'll ever be such a thing as an IT Nobel Prize, whoever invented the ignore button would be on top of my nominee list.
A pity RL doesn't have such a button: I had pretty bad trouble with a stalker, shortly before Christmas. He not only harassed me at my office but also waylayed me right in front of my apartment. While I had previousely ignored him that went a bit far for my taste - I finally lost my patience and roared at him, he visibly paled, took to his heels and has'n turned up since *evil snicker* . My neighbour says it's because I'm always nice, quiet and friendly. People don't expect me to get aggressive and so the impact is far greater when I finally do. I think it's similar with you, Bonzie: you get sarcastic when you are annoyed but scarcely go into full attack mode. When you do it's pretty impressive :D

Tragic-comic side effect of the stalker incident: when I roared at that guy, my neighbour startled [or is it started?? startled looks wrong] slipped in the shower and broke his wrist.

Hehheh. I only go full Romulan on those who merit it and they have to attack first. Then the "OMG" and the lectures toward me and the feather-fluttering is hilarious.

Don't poke the bear and the bear won't swat you. Very easy.

**laughs at Jayson." The same-exact age! HA HA HA HA. Karma's a bitch. All joking aside, the old age jokes never bugged me. Sometimes I'm surprised (unpleasantly so) when I look in the mirror and don't see the picture in my avatar anymore - but I've decided to be an atypical oldie! No short curly bubble-hair style for me! Long silver hair.

42? So now you have the answer to everything! I don't why but, for some reason, I always thought you were my age-ish.

Well 42 and 38 isn't to far apart. Of course being in high school in the early 90's was clearly better than being in high school in the late 90's. We got to wear flannel!:) Plus we didn't have no Backstreet Boys or N"Snc. Our Boy bands were the real deal. I mean we had the New Kids on the Block!

I just realized that I must be really ancient in internet-terms since I seem to be the only one who uses cyber-hugs anymore.

Real life swallowed me up, but not in a bad way. Not here much but I miss it and the people i interacted with. Some found me elsewhere..
I am happily married to AA - who made my avatars, and we have a baby. ❤

^aww, thank you! But what I meant was the hug/pat on the shoulder brackets like [[[[[MLB]]]]]. Nobody seems to use them anymore. They were very popular before gif-smilies were invented and survived a long time in irc-chatrooms before they died out.

{{{{{Auri!}}}}} Welcome back and congrats @ hubby and Baby for having the best wife and mom one can imagine!! You were pretty good at avatar-making yourself, if I am not mistaken. Wasn't it you who made half the avatars on Terran? Last thing I heard (many years ago) was that you had a stalker problem. Did you solve it?

    Hi everyone ❤

Naaww. Rhubarbodenron.. thank you. I was not an avatarmaker.. I think you meant Teelies girlfriend Starbys (was it that name?). She made all little cartoony avs.
Stalker problem..does not sound too familiar either. Just the ordinary creepy ex. And that is pretty much solved.

{{{Elim}}} ! :) Where have you been hiding all this time?

I miss Starbys. She was always friendly and willing to help. Very interesting and funny poster, too, and a wizzard with graphic design software. Does anyone know what happened to her? She seems to have vanished completely.

@ Auri : yes, I was refering to the ex. I had heard a rumour that he stalked and harrassed you. Glad that prob is solved! =)

I joined in 2004, since I wanted to talk about Star Trek with other fans. Life interfered, so I wound up dropping out. I came back, since I wanted to talk about the new NF book & about STO. I was originally very excited when Discovery was announced, but it hasn't at all delivered for me.

I'm on my way out again for several reasons. This used to be a place where people with different POVs could talk, but its become a lot more intolerant. Not sure why some felt it was necessary to basically call me a Nazi misogynist because I don't like Jodi Whittaker as an actress & won't be watching Dr Who as a result. It seems many here have forgotten what Trek is and one of the main guiding principles: IDIC. Infinite Diversity. Infinite Combinations. It seems this board, like a couple of others I used to frequent, has become a Leftist and/or Intersectionality echo chamber without any tolerance for debate or diverse POVs. This level of intolerance is the opposite of what I expect from Star Trek fans.

I've also been dealing with a lot of health issues, some annoying & some life threatening. I had hoped this would be a place for some fun & distraction, but it isn't. I just don't have the strength to deal with this place anymore. But as life has taught me, that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger. And its definitely time for me to move on.
