An example of a plot-mandated romance to produce a baby that works would be Terminator 1. Sure, it's tawdry romance-novel-like as far as perceived-carjacker-becomes-bodyguard theme, but it works.

It wasn’t the point of the movie though, it was about exploring the idea of how the aliens viewed time. Any emotional connection was with the daughter, the father is practically an afterthought. It wasnt even trying to be a romance in any way. The prequels were supposed to be a romance to some degree. You can’t really compare them.

Why on earth did Johnson bring up the possibility of a romance between Rey and Kylo Ren, when just a few days earlier, he had tried to penetrate her mind against her will and kill her? Was Rey supposed to quickly forget this, because the director wanted to hint this possibility of romance?

This is a badly written movie, which is proving to be part of a badly written trilogy. Why on earth did George Lucas sell the trilogy to Disney? They've been mishandling the franchise since Day One. The only thing going their way is that today's moviegoers tend to be rather conservative and nostalgic in their taste in entertainment.

There were people already shipping Reylo after TFA. Some people just love that wounded-bird, bad-boy horseshit. And, of course, any combination of two or more characters or objects will be shipped somewhere, by someone.

Rey was kind of nice to him and he feels like everyone else has betrayed him. I took it has him being obsessed with her. It’s not really a romantic thing, even though he may think it is. Really he wants her power and control over her. She rejects this, driving him towards more anger. She seemed to pity him at best.

Also: Rey’s relationship to Kylo, had as much ‘ possibility of romance’ as Luke’s with Vader. In that, until the conclusion (of both that plot and the relationship), it was literally and purposefully near-identical.

Mentor murder, telepathic conversations, Dark-side seduction, walking straight into traps, the odd bit of torture and mutilation, an entirely unfounded belief in inner goodness, the whole shebang.

That’s kinda why Kylo going all ‘nice guy/as Emperor am I’ was a twist. Turns out, he’s reading from a different script from her. Rey actually says she’s trying to be Luke!

(Hell, in some ways Rey came off as playing it smarter than Luke. By the time she tries redeem Kylo, they at least shared more than one conversation, a lost arm, and a lifetime + 1 movie of being fed complete bullshit.)

Yes. I don't care about his skin color. I think it would be nice to have an action adventure without the mandated romance. It is such a rarity that it would be ridiculously novel.
