Exactly how I feel about it. Well written, but ZERO chemistry between the actors involved.

It felt like filler, in-between much more interesting elements like Staments and the Spores, Stamets and Culber, Lorca, Tilly...

I must be the odd man out cause I thought their chemistry has been great.

The two actors had absolutely zero chemistry together. I got more sexual vibes from Lorca's interactions with Burnham than with Tyler. At no point did they seem like anything more than good friends.

I'd say this is part of developing the idea of a romance as part of a season-long arc before you know how well the two actors click onstage. The plot demands the relationship, even if it doesn't work from an acting perspective. It's much better to let relationships percolate for a bit in the first season, see who the fans ship, and then start doing something.

I definitely feel this season would've worked better if we had gotten to know the crew better.

They have as much chemistry and Neo and Trinity did in that Matrix sequel.

Two planks of wood, set down side by side, would make for a more convincing romance.

You know, the chemistry was garbage, but I think the directing was probably also to blame here to a certain extent. Two people drawn together due to shared trauma should be all over each other like a pack of wild dogs, even if they are otherwise a pair of sadsacks. Yet their physical interactions include a lot of handholding and relatively chaste kisses. That's conceivable for a multi-year relationship which has settled into tedium and mutual affection - not a new flame.

Some of my favorite moments actually apart from it feeling a bit rushed at the start "Because I like you" etc I thought it was great. And we all knew it was going to end pretty badly which is great too because it builds character for Burnham in the long term. Although I am kind of hopeful that Voq will be suppressed and we just get a fully loyal Tyler as I really like the guy and the actor.

I know I am in the minority here but I do hope it isn't properly over yet.

Also Stamets and Doctor are awesome too.

WE are the odd ones out, the chemistry seemed fine to me too. They were some of my favorite scenes seeing them both try to cope with all this stuff that is happening. And we need to remember that Burnham has like 0 experience at this stuff so watching her act like a kid in High school felt very normal to watch. Maybe I'm just stupid lol.

Not even remotely. It's one thing I think Discovery has really struggled with and that is creating relationships between characters that fans / viewers, can relate to and get involved in.

The mentor thing between Lorca and Burnham is the only decent relationship on the show.

It didn't touch me as a "romance" -- but then again, I don't think it was supposed to.

I think the conversation Burnham and Tyler had in ep. 11 hit their relationship on the head -- That is to say, they both were each other's tether. They need each other "in the moment", but they never really reached the level of being a romantic couple.

If Culber somehow comes back, as they said he would, I'm guessing they would explore it further

I think their romantic scenes did touch me emotionally as a viewer. But that was more because of how they were both lost, desperate people in different ways seeking solace in each other. I was a big believer in Tyler/Voq, so a part of me could never get fully invested in it. Besides that, it was somewhat rushed happening in the first season and a shortened one at that. How can you compare that to other romances which have had multiple seasons to develop and grow? It's not really fair to, imo.

For all we know, later on they manage to work through the bad stuff and rekindle in a healthier way. I thought their chemistry was great, but it's subjective, of course.

I also happened to find the relationship T'Voq has with L'Rell as pretty compelling, so I don't mind if they explore that further instead.

I love romances which allow for committed ongoing relationships, though. Zoe/Wash from Firefly is an example of that. Worf and Jadzia was great and it hit me hard when they tore that apart with a death. I don't need melodramatic sparks and will they/won't they tension all the time which has often been the norm. I have hopes that Stamets and Culber will somehow find their way back to each other, which is crazy since the latter person is dead. But I did love what they showed of their relationship.

    I hope so.

And shouldn't there be medical personal when they did tests with Stamets?
It seems Disco doesn't have many medical officers

It was not cringeworthy like Kelvin Spock/Uhura or Kira/Odo, but it was a bit meh. I guess it was believable enough as somewhat casual hook up, but it certainly wasn't any sort of great romance. Then again, I'm sure anticipating the Voq reveal may have affected how I viewed it.

Nope, it so massively foreshadowed that Tyler was Voq that there was just no possibility of an actual romantic storyline for the two.
