It was a vintage car with vintage music, so of course it had a vintage phone.

If you really break it down scene-for-scene, Datalore is a giant bag of cold, wet llama shit. One of the absolute worst TNG outings, and easily one of the franchise's most overrated episodes. It always boggles me when I see it on lists of good episodes. Dreck through-and-through.

    I'd say it's a tie between
    - "all of Bread and Circuses"
    - "all of The Omega Glory"
    - "all of Profit and Lace".
    - Every single second Neelix is on screen, except for that one dramatic scene he got.
    - Picard's flag colour arrangement line. Pure cringe.
Since only the third one is mentionned, I voted for that one.

I don't think some of those you listed are embarassing at all:

    - "What does god need with a starship" was a great line!
    - I kinda liked the space hippies.
    - Shades of Grey is not embarassing, just incredibly boring and pointless.

This is news to me. What was it? Did Piscopo make a rude gesture or something?

Most embarrassing Trek in history was the Pittsburgh "convention" of 1995. They held it it the Pittsburgh Zoo, on a cold day, there were no guests, and attendance was... well, I saw more masturbating monkeys than Star Trek fans.*

*Although this WAS Pittsburgh, and it's sometimes hard to tell the difference.

Any time Kirk chastises a crewmember and calls him "mister" I cringe.

Stop saying "Spock's Brain" or "Threshold" are the worst episodes--they're WAY too funny!

"Plato's Stepchildren" on the other hand was simply torture.

Honestly, I keep trying to remain open minded in regards to the Kelvin universe films but sometimes I just can't. For me the 2009 reboot wasn't the absolute worst. But Into Darkness hurt, and Beyond hurt me even more. Particularly the Beastie Boys scene. It felt so out of place for Star Trek and I just can't get over it. Sure it was fun visually and everything, but meh. It still haunts me to this day. I'm planning a rewatch of the Kelvin trilogy soon enough, but man will I need some aid in doing so.

Hmm. I don't really get that. Just seems like a normal bit of military discipline to me.

Just feels lame to me, like how a substitute teacher from the 60's would try to dress down a class wiseass.

I don't understand why, if you dislike something so much, you'd do that?

    No.

And, I will be the outlier and say that the "KHAN" scream didn't take me out of the movie. The whole scene worked very well for me.

But, Quark's transgender surgery for comedy is incredibly insensitive and garbage of the highest quality.

It didn't take me out of the movie so much as it cemented the notion that JJ et al lacked original ideas.

I don't think that's true at all. I think it cemented the idea that doing an "homage" is a VERY tricky and sensitive thing to do, especially of such iconic material.

They hit it out of the park in the bottom of the 9th with the "reactor room death scene." Then, they struck looking with the bases loaded with the "Khan yell." The thing that was so unfortunate and jarring is that this was literally within seconds of each other.

No big deal, $#!+ happens, especially when you're taking risks...but man...

But I definitely don't agree that it was due to "not having any original ideas."
