It would seem that Gambit is going ahead into production...

For once I actually agree with you. Of all of the possible choices for a solo movie, Gambit does seem like an odd choice. I just don't really see him being popular enough to draw in the kind of crowd these movies need.Yeah, the movie few people wanted based on the X-Men character they seem to think is popular even though he's never been able to support an ongoing comic for more then 26ish issues (and that was over a decade ago, more recent stuff has lasted a good deal less) is probably going to bomb. He got really popular originally because of the 90s cartoon, but I think he's always worked best as a supporting player, not a solo act. Of all the X-Men who could get a solo movie, Gambit would be near the bottom of the list of characters I think deserve one.
That was from the EW article that came out recently.I'm not sure if anyone posted this yet. IMDB shows a new poster for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, depicting a fiery-looking Jean Grey:

Ah, I didn't know about that since I haven't paid much attention to the newsstands in recent years. That was from the EW article that came out recently.

Eh, the real bottom of the barrel scraping is the proposed Multiple Man movie...which is just going to be an excuse for James Franco to have an orgy with copies of himself.
I mean who would want to see a solo Cyclopes movie? Or a Jubilee movie? Not really very much to work with there.
Cap always had a lot more to work with, what with the whole "man out of time" angle and embodying the moral and ethical ideals of a simpler time (and all of the grit of the reality of said time not exactly holding up to said ideal.)Cyclops is supposed to be like the X-Men version of Cap, and the MCU has done wonders with him.
Cyclops was created for a team and also almost always existed within the context of a team. As far as I know, he's never had his own solo series.
