Spoilers 2017 Christmas Special Title and Trailer

I was kind of hoping the Smith-Capaldi regeneration would be the new norm, some build up, then just bam! He flash changes into Jodi Whitaker. No more Jesus pose. I liked it fine the first couple of times, but much like the Doctor I'm ready for a change.

See, I thought it went that easily because it was a brand new cycle. And if Capaldi wrecks the TARDIS again because he held it off (ala Tennant), there's precedent for that.
Him standing up isn't that big a deal if he's not too badly injured or technically dead.

Guys, Smith's regeneration wrecked an entire Dalek FLEET. The exploding regeneration precedent from Tennant still applied, and will apply, apparently.

That was really only the "reset", since he didn't regenerate until later. Unless they're going to count that as a regeneration like the Tennant one.

It was all one regeneration. The Doctor just held off on changing until he could say goodbye to Clara.

And there was also precedent in the new series that the healing and the change are separate parts of the process, both the Tenth Doctor's half-regeneration, and even more explicitly in "The End of Time," where his injuries healed almost immediately after he was dosed with radiation, but it was still... some amount of time... before he went through with the change. I tend to imagine the Doctor is getting better at regenerating, so he's more able to control the process, hanging on longer when he can't afford to get all amnesiac and wacky in the middle of a crisis, or he's just feeling sentimental. It also helps explain the standing and walking during regeneration.

I always considered the Smith Regen to Capaldi as the excess energy because they gave him a boat load of regeneration cycles. Almost making him immortal, as indicated by Rassilon in Hell Bent, by his statement he could kill him over and over again all night. 12 bodies would be down and over in about a half hour under that metric.

Now I'm all for homages but it doesn't make a lot of sense in this context.

Basically, Bernard Wikie was one of the pioneers of TV special effects for the BBC. He died in 2002.

Oh, i know who he was but, fictionally, why is his name there? (I'm guessing the one that can't be made out is probably Peter Brachacki.)

I'd think the set designers weren't expecting a closeup on the controls. It's just an in-house reference that unintentionally got caught on camera.

Actually no, the other label is functional, not the name of another designer. Gatiss only has wilkie on the console as a name. It's the same prop, maybe a bit more accurate then the one they used in AAISAT movie. The same prop as in there, with some small mods. Wilkie is on that version too. My writer for the TARDIS master schematics book is William Swift of the www.whoniverse.net website. I've learned not to argue with him on Doctor Who facts. He's the best researcher on all of the data. Novels, TV, comics, articles, RPG, fan club news letters. He's researched all resources on the subject of the Time Lord's and their tech and history. He's got a great in-universe Bernard Wilkie which will be in the book we're putting together.

Some of you may disagree with me politically, but honestly, I don't see why people who lean differently politically can't still be friends. William and I are polar opposites on that spectrum, yes we argue. Yes we sometimes troll each other..but we are still the best of friends and work very well together. Just because we disagree (Jodie-Chibnall), doesn't mean we don't agree on other issues. That's how it should be.

That new trailer was really cool. I'm really excited for the special, it can't come soon enough for me.
