NFL 2017 Season

My beloved Saints lost to the Rams but it was a pretty good game. Sometimes it seemed as if both teams were competing for penalties. Rams defense was really good, but there were some Saints penalties that truly hurt. :ack:

The Raiders and Broncos...Jesus Christ.
Yeah I watched that dumpster fire. That idiotic fight that took down that one zebra was the beginning of the end and they continue to play musical quarterbacks. First time I think they said that Denver lost seven in a row since 1968 or something like that. Bloody disgraceful.

Mike Lupica wondering how long it will be until Eli Manning is seriously hurt because of a weak offensive line. Not sure if this is realistic, but Lupica speculates about trading Manning to the Broncos. Column reads in part:

At least Eli is still standing. For now.

He is largely defenseless in an offense that now scores touchdowns less frequently than Premier League soccer teams score goals. He has little protection. So often he has no one to whom he can throw the ball with any confidence, with what confidence he has left. More and more you think he has no future here, and start to hope that the Giants trade him after this season, maybe even to the Broncos who, let’s face it, have won with an aging Manning as their quarterback before.

Steelers vs Packers was a lot better than expected, but I can't help but lament what we've lost as NFL fans with Rodgers being out. This game could've been even better.

I tuned into RedZone for a little bit yesterday. So, is tackling a thing of the past now? Soooo many missed tackles...

Heh...they've been saying the same thing about Kirk Cousins if Dan Snyder continues to disrespect him with yet another attempted franchise tag next year - which will make it, I think, four in a row (maybe three) - either way, unprecedented. If he stays with the Redskins, he's likely to be the highest-paid QB in the League simply because the tag will require it. If he goes, there has been strong speculation (in both cities) that he may jump to Denver.

Regardless if it's Eli or Kirk (or both), Denver's O-Line isn't much better than NY. I've lost count how many times all three of their interchangeably mediocre QB's have been sacked in the past 7 games. At least Kirk's staying relatively protected where he is now - Gruden's done a fairly decent job rebuilding both front lines in the past couple of years. Both NY and Denver need a lot more than just a competent quarterback. They need a complete re-architecture from top to bottom.

The Raiders get their first interception of the season -- first interception, in game 11. It came on a lucky play when the ball fell into Navorro Bowman's hands while he was lying on his back in Denver's end zone. That Ken Norton's defense was unable to scheme it's way to an average number of picks in 11 games was no surprise, but how is it that this has been our only interception based on pure luck in about 40 quarters?

Obviously, we must have angered the football gods in some way. Hopefully, our sacrifice of Ken Norton Jr. last Monday, has placated them. :)

Going from Watson to Savage at QB is like taking your lobster away and giving you a plate full of dogshit.

Big meltdowns on WFAN today over the shabby treatment of Eli Manning. The Giants horrible season is almost over so why would TPTB bench him and end his starting streak? Manning has never complained about his O-Line aka Melba Toast, his lack of receivers, or the ends who drop perfectly thrown passes like they were cobras.

I'm very surprised that John Mara went along with this and Wellington Mara must be spinning like a top in his grave.

Yeah, that's terrible. Geno Smith? Come on.

Eli has won 2 Super Bowls for this team, and this is how they repay him?

Bob McAdoo is an idiot, as evidenced by his press conference after being beaten by the Rams at home by 5 touchdowns.

I hear the Texans are rummaging around the high schools and pee wee leagues looking for a QB. Qualifications are losing fumbles and throwing interceptions, TDs are optional.
Heh...I'm reminded of Joe Theisman's philosophy on interceptions (to rationalize his own rather checkered career), "If you're not throwing interceptions, you're not throwing touchdowns, either!", or something to that effect. I guess it got him through most of his press conferences back then, at least until LT finished him off.

And behind Denver's offensive line, he won't be gently used for long.

Pfft, with this neck, he'll survive forever:

(I'm still proud that this Photoshop landed on Deadspin.)

Bah. Corporate speak/happy horseshit/word salad from John Mara who seems a little surprised by fans' overwhelming hostility to the Eli debacle.

Three billboards reading “Big Blue Shame On You,” written in a font to mock the Giants’ team logo, were seen on the side of highways in North Jersey, not far from MetLife Stadium, on Wednesday.
