Lorca: Fans Will Have To Adjust

Or their just different, rather than presenting Klingons as a monolithic culture and species.

Almost like, there was variety in them, like humans.

So far that wasn't what they showed us. We've seen all 24 (?) houses and all klingons look the same. I will admit, some Klingon uniforms look pretty close as old ones. But their ships are completely different.

We have seen the leadership of the 24 houses and the aristocracy. Should we assume all Klingons look the same from that sample size? Especially when, on Earth, aristocrats and royal lines have experimented with inbreeding, body modification and other ways to set themselves apart?

As for the ships, by this logic, Starfleet vessels should only look like a Constituion class, actually "Starship Class" since that is the only Starfleet vessel we have seen in TOS.

There are difficulties with assuming that everything we've seen somehow represents the whole of a culture of Fleet.

Visual style of everything beginning with Klingons and their ships.
That happened with TMP, TNG, and onwards. I started as a child with TOS, so any Klingon that didn't look like an unridged Ming the Merciless still looks "wrong" to me. But as an adult I brush it aside, because the stories are far more important to me than incidental details like costume and makeup.

Would I be thrilled to see TOS style Klingons finally show up on DSC? Sure, but it doesn't make or break the show for me.

So, in my email account something popped up saying this discussion was still going on. Gosh. Been going on a long time. I've only looked at this page, see people are arguing about the look. Nothing will get solved---there are those who like to change thing because it suits their agenda, and people who don't like the arrogance of those who hijack things for their own agenda. I can't wait for the production staff to start weighing in on the evils of cultural appropriation...even as they do it.

But my real reason was to just say that Jay Isaacs was wrong, at least for the one data point I have to go on. I haven't watched a single ep yet, and...strangely enough, feel no great loss in my life. Maybe I will get around to it one day--I suppose there will be some used DVDs/BlueRays out there in the outyears, somewhere.

In the meantime, though, I'm sure the self-congratulating will continue on the set, because they are doing what they want, and they thus met their one criteria for success.

Cheers.

They didn't even show up on ENT until the fourth and final season of the show, and then appeared in just two out of 98 episodes. We know they exist in this time period and now it's up to the producers to decide if and when to show them. But in the long run I'd rather they get the ships looking right than depict half the Klingons in the series as being affected by the Augment virus.

Some Augment virus Klingons would be very, very cool but even cooler would be D7s that don't look like abominations and something out of a video game.

Please, educate the class.

What is this terrible ‘agenda’ you speak of, and define exactly whose and what ‘culture’ is being ‘appropriated’.

Isn't it obvious?
