Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Is the little step on the nacelle rigged to pop out when it opens the side doors?
Yes, it is! Well, on my build anyway. I've got all the interaction hooked up, so in-game you press the "Push" button and the doors open and the step folds out.

However, from the research I've done, the original mockup did not have a functioning step. Just a piece of steel welded to the side of the nacelle.

Does the rear landing leg... do something? It's hinged, and there's a slot, but it doesn't look capable of retracting as-is.

No, there was no way to retract the landing leg into the shuttle body, and I for one aren't going to figure that one out. I think it's been pretty widely accepted that the landing leg is just...there.

Bloody hell. For those that haven't, you have to click and look at the full rez image. It's amazing.

TOS ships are a texturing nightmare. All that smooth gray and white with no detailing. I think you've hit exactly the right amount of wear and grime.

I will be stealing from you shamelessly.

Just wanted to touch base, guys. I've been taking a break from this project to catch up on TV and games. Was headed towards burn-out and needed to take some time to slow down and be entertained and social for a bit. Haha. Whenever I'm working on a project, it's almost all I do in my free time. I'm planning on picking back up with the project after the holidays. Cheers!

UPDATES: Here are links pointing to the posts featuring newer iterations of this project:
TOS Bridge Version 2.0
TOS Bridge Version 3.0

I know, I know. Another thread, featuring another build, of another Enterprise, using another game engine. I wish I could focus on just one Enterprise but I can't!!

Needed a break from the Refit Enterprise interiors, so I decided to go ahead and start a new TOS Enterprise build. I'm starting from scratch from my previous TOS build (that used the ancient Quake III engine), and am not borrowing any assets from that build.

Anyway, I've been secretly building the Bridge (secret except to those that view my blog), and today I made a final lighting compile, loaded up the game, and took some screenshots for your viewing pleasure. I should have a video up sometime soon showing off the blinkies.

Much thanks goes to the crew at TOSgraphics.com for allowing me to use their research for the control panel surfaces. Although I constructed all the viewing screens from scratch, the research that they've done was immensely helpful in nailing the graphics, blink patterns, and timing.

Here are the shots of the bridge.

I'll be updating this thread with any work that is done on this project. For my Refit Enterprise project, refer to this thread.

And as always, to keep up with day-to-day progress, see the link to my blog in my signature.
Re: TOS Enterprise Interiors -- Unreal 3 Engine

Here's the video I promised, mainly showing off the blinking display screens. Again, special thanks to Will at TOSgraphics.com for allowing me to use his research. I am not claiming these blink patterns and timing to be extremely accurate due to limitations with animated textures in Unreal 3. I'd go into a long explanation but I suppose it's not necessary, as these are as close as I could get them, and they will have to do.

Watch it in 1080p!

This is for Donny, is there in any way i can get the photos from you with out the printing on them or can you tell me how can we both talk to each other please?.
I am looking for some persons to help to build a real star ship from the t.v. show of star trek TOS, i can give you my address and e-mail if you want to try to talk with me ok?.

Re: TOS Enterprise Interiors -- Unreal 3 Engine

I'm back and better than ever!

The Unreal 4 engine was released a few months back, and after seeing some of it's advanced features, I decided to make the switch. I was anxious to see how some of my TOS stuff would look in a new-gen gaming engine, and I think the results speak for themselves. The most notable difference is the inclusion of real-time screen space reflections, so there is no more faked reflection or cheap diffuse specularity on surfaces. This is most evident in the reflection of the view-screens on the black consoles below them (check it out in the Unreal 4 vs Unreal 3 comparison shot below). There are a few other new enhancements, IMO offering a much more realistic real-time render.

However, making the transition to the Unreal 4 engine didn't simply consist of me porting everything over from Unreal 3. I completely reconstructed each of the models (except for the Burke chair) for two reasons. A) Unreal 4 uses a different unit scale than Unreal 3, and B) I wanted to apply methods of modelling I'd learned since I built the TOS Bridge in Unreal 3. You'll notice the models have much more surface detail and chamfered edges, giving a smoother, more detailed and realistic look.

I was, thankfully, able to quickly port over all the viewing screen graphics from my previous project, saving at least a week's time.

I plan on resuming work on this project full-speed ahead, however I will have to also reconstruct the areas I previously completed last year (corridors, transporter room, sickbay, briefing room) to get them up to snuff with the new engine. It'll be interesting to see how pretty Unreal 4 will make the rest of the Enterprise interiors appear.

Enjoy.

It isn't apparent in this still image, but the viewing screen is functional in-game. It is actually a 2D real-time render from a camera set else-where in the map pointed at a rotating planet mesh with a star backdrop that rotates as well, giving the illusion of the Enterprise orbiting the planet. (Forgive the jagged shadow at the top of the viewer...I'm struggling with lighting that area properly)

I'm still trying to make the control buttons look more translucent and plastic than they currently do.

By "real star ship" do you mean an actual interstellar craft or a physical earth-based reproduction?

Yes a real one. I found land to build it on you want to help with this?.
Not that this really needs to be said, and Kelvin timeline scenery in Iowa notwithstanding, building a full-scale starship without the benefit of structural integrity force fields (which haven't been invented yet) in a gravity well is not practical. Not to mention fusion reactors for impulse, gravity plating, transporter technology with proper Heisenberg Compensation, matter-antimatter intermix (does anyone actually make antimatter yet?), etc., etc., and so on.

Hell, we can't even build creaky old space stations without having them come down in flaming balls of plasma in random locations on people's head several years after being deployed!

In short, you may be able to 3D print one of these suckers as a mock-up we're a ways off from a real-world starship.

kennysmith, I'm sorry, but as I've said many times before, I'm not interested. And please, let's not turn this thread into a discussion about your proposed project. Please start a new thread outside of this one if you'd like help with your project.

Thank you, kennysmith.

Why are you on a website where everyone one needs to have a open mined?, if you don't want to help with this it is ok with me thank you.
