It could also represent a psychological break. Mentally associating himself as a Klingon because of what he did.

If this were Berman Trek, I’d say you were dead wrong as there wasn’t a lot of symbolism there. While I still hold firm that I think the Voq/Tyler thing is the way they’re going, you do bring up an interesting possibility. There just seems to be more than that here. I dunno. I think we’ll find out pretty soon when the show comes back.

I’m in the Tyler=Voq camp, just thought I’d throw up another possibility

Tyler is Voq, though the surgical table would seem to indicate that the Augment virus may have had nothing to do with his change in appearance.

You know how I said there wasn't actual hard evidence to support this theory? I can no longer make that claim after Into the Forest I Go.

There are inconsistencies with other Trek series that they need to address, but the writing is now pretty clearly on the wall that this theory is indeed the direction they're going.

Looks like we probably have our first human-looking Klingon of the series. ;)

Tyler is absolutely Voq. The longing looks L'Rell gives him are identical to the way she looks at Voq aboard the Shenzhou. Add to that the, "I won't let them hurt you," and, "Soon," she isn't a torturer, she's a woman in love. Side note, when are we going to get a thread devoted to Klingon boobs? We got pages of discussion about Tilly and Stamets saying "Fucking", but I haven't read word one about bare chested L'Rell.

I saw it mentioned once or twice, the thread discussing possibility of sex on trek was locked cause it got out of hand,

I for one thought the entire thing was tasteful and germane to what was being depicted, breasts and all.

I thought I saw that too, but decided I was imagining it because it was what I was expecting. Glad to know someone else saw it too.

I had no idea that I could see her breasts until after the nightmare scene ended. With the skin-paint and all of the additional ridged make-up additions, I wasn't sure what I saw.

EDIT: As an aside, Whether Tyler is Voq or not, he's some type of Fu Man-Churian Candidate.

The show is aimed at a more international audience. No doubt, this scene will be no big deal whatsoever in European markets. However, East Asian markets will likely have it edited out.

I'm leaning towards thinking that Voq's consciousness, in some way, has been put into Tyler's body. Part of that is based on my desire to see Tyler remain part of the show in season two and beyond, mind you.

The surgical table definitely suggests that significant work has been done to Tyler, but given the sheer difference in physiology between humans and Klingons on this show in particular, it just feels short of impossible that they could have altered Voq's body, mind, etc., all in the space of three weeks (which was the timeline between 104 and 105)? Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Either way, I do believe there's a part of Tyler that legitimately is him, and I hope that he carries on with the crew in the next season.

Voq's consciousness being implanted into Tyler's brain is an interesting idea. But that's getting into some weird metaphysical stuff that would be more in line with a telepathic species, like Vulcans.

There are some tells in the actor’s gestures gait and stature as well.

Also, Tyler and Voq have the same weak ass chin.

So if the scenario is that Voq is Tyler then the plan was constructed when L'Rell and Voq were on the abandonned Shenzhiou? They then commandeered a Klingon prison ship, installed 'Tyler' and waited. Threw Mudd into the mix and maybe others and waited. Waited until someone from Discovery, preferably the Captain, would be on a shuttle and could be captured. Lucky break. SO they have Lorca and they need him to take Tyler with him, doh, another lucky break. Then it's critical that Tyler is installed into a pivotal role on Discovery. Good thing Landry died because, as per plan, Tyler is not only new security officer but becomes almost as well-used as Michael as far as going on missions. Then the real clever part of the plan. L'Rell is stuck in deaths waiting room and graveyard just when Tyler is beamed back to Discovery. She leaps onto him and is transported back to Discovery. The Admiral is shuttled off to hospital but L'Rell is set up conveniently on Discovery ready for 'sleeper' Tyler or Voq or whomever he is to affect the next part of the plan. The plan being to what?? Become the best Klingons alive, kill humans, or surrender to them?

How could it go wrong with all those cards stacked in its favour?

Remember, this is a show about mushroom-spore powered ship. All those things you mentioned are writers just saying "If we can literally sell a show based on a mushrooms (actually charge money for it) and create a fake actor to play a pivotal role in the show, then no-one will care much about such inconceivable plan (i.e. no plan at all, just some coincidences)
