To them it is t a course either.
Rebecca appears to shift an entire locality in time, using the same method we would changing a dream in our sleep. (Maybe that’s just me...but I doubt it.)
That’s why the rescuers are in place, they left at 1pm say, but the locality has been shifted back to 12:30, giving them time to affect their rescue. In the second event, she shifts enough of the area to include the ways team, but not the ship in orbit...hence the rescue can be effected during the Sisko Kid Do-Over.
Now...
Can she do the whole station? Say...about five years....

Well, she's 10 in 2386, by which time most kids have some understanding of the world. The epilogue of Original Sin has her believing that she returned to an earlier event in her life and caused it to happen differently. She doesn't understand how she did it, but she does seem to have a pretty clear idea of what she did.
If the Prophets guide a life, then Rebecca's crys indicate a need for intervention.
I still want to know who wrote the framing story of "Prophecy and Change."
I had the same feeling. I think the long chapters also helped me build up momentum, after I got over the initial hump and realized I was three chapters in but had already covered a healthy chunk of the book. IIRC, DRGIII had a similar effect in his last or second to last book, which I realized after it ended had no chapters, just scene breaks.
It also seems that she believes the energy flare she sent up both times was a separate ability from the time-travelling (which counts against the idea that she was side-stepping into an alternate reality she found more pleasing, since both times the inciting incident that changed the course of events was the energy surge she generated. Sisko and Tey didn't just happen to luck into finding her more quickly by random chance. BTW, another vote for putting Jasmine Tey on the Robinson. I don't remember how much we saw of her before as Rebecca's bodyguard/nanny, but her expert profiling abilities were tantalizing and definitely made me want to see more of that kind of character, whether in security or as part of the diplomatic and contact specialists).
As it happens, I've been low-key fixated on the video game "Life Is Strange" since playing it a few months ago, so it was a little funny that I was listening to the soundtrack when I got to the part revealing that Rebecca had the "rewind" power that's the central mechanic of the game. And here I'd just been hoping CLB would hear about it so there'd be an easter-egg reference to it in the next DTI story and I could plotz over it, not that there'd be an analogous event in TrekLit.
I found this to be an enjoyable book. At first I was concerned that jumping back and forth between 2386 and 2380 would cause some confusion, but it was done in a very organized way that was easy to follow. I remember when they skipped ahead in DS9 with the Typhon Pact books there was a lot that occurred in that 3 or 4 year gap. Over the years different books have addressed some of the missing stories from that period. This was another great untold story of that period, Rebecca's kidnapping, which we previously only heard referenced. Obviously there's more to Rebecca then meets the eye. I also found it interesting that the Robinson came across a species that they just could not negotiate with. A lot of times in Star Trek, they find a way to negotiate, come to terms with other races, or we find it was some misunderstanding. But this was one of those stories where there was just no negotiating. It's a reminder that even in the Federation, not everything is perfect, that sometimes a peaceful resolution is not possible. I hope to see further novels continue to the Robinson's mission in the Gamma Quadrant.
This one didn't do it for me and I couldn't finish it. The Glant were cool but I found the book ponderous for the most part, particularly the 2380 portions. Also, the crew of the Robinson were not particularly engaging which is how i feel about most of the DS9 Relaunch.
DRG3 has written some fantastic trek books over the years, but this thing is boring me every time I pick it back up. I'm having a hell of a time staying focused while reading it. Way to much contemplation and slow moving action. 60 page chapters involving the crew struggling to move the ship! I don't need the constant inner monologue about how worried they are about the missing children and then going over the science involved in moving the ship out of an "impossible" situation. Couldn't this have been accomplished in a shorter about of time, at least story wise? Just get on with it!

Took almost exactly a month but finished last night.
It's a neat idea written in an average way unfortunately. and although the ending was neat and I lked how it tied in a bit off a missing story about Rebecca, i just felt like the book was missing something. Stuff was both too neatly tied up but also left oddly mysterious if that makes sense.

It would be neat if Ezri and the Aventine joined Sisko and the Robinson in the Gamma Quadrant. Just thinking, not pitching.
If my dreams of an Aventine-only novel never come to fruition, I will gladly take more Aventine in the GAMMA miniseries, please. Such fun characters on that ship that always have to be jammed into crowded team-up novels.

I hope we'll get more Star trek tv series of books besides Discovery.The only ones shown on Star Trek.com right are just Discovery right now. I have nothing against the Discovery books it's just frustrating there's isn't news right now about the other trek novels Give us some updated news already about the other Star Trek books please..
