Lorca is a coward and murderer, how come he's a Starfleet Captain still??

We already have a word, though; Anthropophagy, though I suppose it depends on if you want to apply "anthro" to nonhuman sentient creatures. Probably, scientists were called anthropologists even when they studied aliens on other Trek shows.
Xenoanthropophagy. Gotta toss xeno in there.
though I think Anthropophagy is just the sciencey word for cannibalism

He's definitely straying into loose canon, possibly will need to be deposed territory. However, he didn't commit any war crimes today. He followed the proper procedure. For once. Obviously his motivations are suspect for that change in attitude, but, one could argue he listened to Cornwell and finally took her advice to heart. Eh, I am leaning towards it being a ruthless and self-interested decision based on his desperate need to hold on to the Discovery as his ship. Cornwell threatened that.

While his hands are clean officially, I think spiritually he's guilty of sending his lover and a fellow Starfleet officer to torture and death.

I find that Troi really could have become Captain of the Enterprise the most horrifying retcon yet.

You can get to be Admiral without ever commanding a starships.

I doubt that Dr. McCoy was ever given a ship to command, but he made admiral.

Also there was that commodore of Starbase 10 that wasn't a starship commander.

And Sisko, yes.

Mind you, though, hospital ships do exist.

I'm loving Lorca. The desperation in his conversation with Cornwell. Damn, dude. I honestly believe him. I really do. I don't think he has intentionally mislead any of the people he knows, just the tests that he was given. I do think he really cares for the people under his command, but not to the exclusion of winning the war. I see him trying to save face, to honor those that died because of his actions in the past. I see very clear motives for what he's doing, and I love it. Yes, it's going to get very messy, and yes he will likely have to be relieved of command by force via Burnham, at some point, but... It's going to be much closer to Matt Decker than Ron Tracey territory. For that I am totally happy. Mostly because I love Matt Decker's character from Doomsday Machine and always felt that we were robbed of ever seeing a character like that on a longer term basis. Someone who's oviously got their feet in the light, but they're slipping. Out of guilt, out of paranoia, out of damage done to them that they didn't deserve or ask for..

I actually feel Starfleet as illustrated by the Admiral deserves everything they get with Lorca. The very question that this thread asked was how did he remain a Starfleet Captain still. It was answered with the latest episode. Admiral Cornwall. Hello? What an idiot. She can't be good at he profession if she is only now weighing up the reality that Lorca is damaged. That nonsense that he may have manipulated her into bed - what was she thinking (apart from 'that' ;)) to be having sex with someone in her command anyway? Then to rattle on about how he tricked his way through his psychological tests. Am I the only one who thought how lame that was? Oh you fooled us, it's your fault we were too stupid to see you were a risk. Then doofus Admiral falls into a trap. If she thinks her bed mate is going to save her after she threatened him, well think again.

I was half expecting Lorca to blow up Cornwall's shuttle. (Now that would be dark Trek!) OK he didn't but even Cornwall should realize that this guy isn't going to give up his ship -- and she has just told him that she's going to be the one to do that. Yeah good luck with that, Admiral. Talking about living dangerously ...
