I wish people would stop pitting the two shows against each other in some strange competition.
This ain't Thunderdome where only one show can survive.
If wishes were horses...

Yes, but the question is, which one is better?
What's your point? At the same time there were people who didn't agree with it and fought for the creature's well being. It created better drama because of it. And in the end Saru made the right call. You're just trying to justify your negativity, while in fact the show resolved it very nicely, humane and in a Trek fashion. But you just don't want to see it that way, in your mind DSC is just a show where 'they wanna cut of an innocent creature's limbs'...
The Orville isn't empirically, demonstrably great. There's no one thing you can point to that makes it so, but it has crept into my mind the way that great things do.
However it was resolved, multiple Federation Starfleet characters have been shown behaving in a manner not exactly in line with the other series, repeatedly .
You ran out of arguments quickly...ALL HAIL DISCOVERY!!! THE BESTEST AND MOST TREK LIKE SERIES EVER! FOR ALL TIME!
Bigly.
Really? Name four of them... Case closed.
So far, a lot more characters HAVE acted like the Starfleet we've known.
And when I think about, go back to the other series and count how many questionable captains and Admirals we've encountered....
Georgiou? Case lost. If she qualifies for trying to survive, then ALL ST captains are immoral... Kirk blew up his ship with Klingons inside...... the fact that you mention Georgiou proves to me you're just looking...Burnham, Georgiou, Lorca, dead security girl whose name I didn’t learn, let’s be honest...it’s basically everyone. Assaulting their crew mates, hiding bombs in bodies, torturing or intending to torture other beings....and any questionable captains or admirals in the earlier shows are usually not leads, and usually in an antagonist role in a given story. This show so far is like the Equinox from Voyager, only with none of the mitigating circumstance and no ‘good’ Starfleet crew stopping them.
This may turn out fine down the line, but so far, I am unimpressed.
Case Won, since I named your four?
Since we're talking about art, and entertainment which isn't bound by much under the word "empirical", wouldn't the fact it creeps into your mind the way great things do make it great?
I think the humor is great.
I don't think there is a way to empirically demonstrate the greatness of any art or art form, though that would be a great discussion in and of itself.
Two whole episodes devoted to 'good' characters trying to stop the abuse of the water bear... with flat out lying about what DSC ACTUALLY shows you're not convincing me, sorry.(...) and no ‘good’ Starfleet crew stopping them.

It's not unlikeable to me. You can state it like it's fact, but it's just your opinion. And to be fair, we're both looking through different lenses. You want to see the negative, I want to see the positive. Guess that's we just don't connect on this. But you're probably a nice guy!Crew. Whole crew. The Voyager in the example I am citing, I make no comments about the few ‘good’ acts of the officers in DSC, as I say, it may all pan out well. It’s a serial. But it’s not lying, those events happened, and keep happening, in the episodes we have seen so far. The DSC crew is the most unlikeable in Trek history, out of the gate. Maybe they will get better.
