Spoilers The game changing Voq theory

My biggest problem with this theory

I have a hard time believing that at some point there was a room full of writers/producers/etc, and not a single one of them said:

“Wait, what... We’re doing this?!? Don’t get me wrong, we all thought Voq becoming a human it was pretty cool as a “wouldn’t it be crazy if....” story, just like the whole Saru/Tardigrade sexual assault idea, but... We’re going ahead with FOR REAL?!?”
These are the people who OKed the mushroom drive. This is nothing.

But evidence we've seen (actor credits, names, lack of press from this actor) is too strong to be dismissed, and few reasonable conclusions can be made from this evidence other than the conclusion that Latif = Voq in some way, shape, or form.

It might not be beyond a reasonable doubt in a murder case, but it's enough to convince me for a TV show. Maybe it's not the case, but if it isn't, there's definitely something fishy going on that I wouldn't feel foolish for thinking it.

I wasn't arguing against you, I was trying to back you up.

I don't see this is crazy at all.

It happened in TOS. Kind of.

Assuming that IMDB is accurate in stating that the actor they have listed as Javid Iqbal is not playing Voq is not evidence.

Assuming that there's something fishy in the timing of Shazad Latif being initially announced as playing the character of Kol in a role that sounds similar to the role filled by Voq is not evidence.

There is very little actual evidence to support this theory, because speculation and assumptions are not evidence.

Oops, I meant to say Trouble with Tribbles. However, he was also in the DS9 title I mentioned above, but older and masquerading as Barry Waddle.

Someone asked the original Javid Iqbal that was credited as playing him in IMDb if he was playing Voq and he said no.

So there is either another unknown actor out there with the same name, which is entirely possible, or it is a pseudonym.

Everything you listed is evidence used towards the thoery.

It isn't evidence it is fact, it is evidence that it might be fact.

Also, as Barry Waddle, he was being transported from a Klingon prison... fascinating. :vulcan:

No he wasn't, he was being transported from Cardassia. He became stranded there when the Klingons invaded.

So we'll know for sure once Tyler visits Lorca's Ready Room and the Tribble on his desk starts going nuts.

And/or IMDB just screwed up. Which has been known to happen.

Another thing is that Latif has always been in the credits from day one, even though we haven't seen Ash yet. I admit that's suspicious as well, but I just chalked that up to union rules demanding that an actor playing a regular (like Latif) always be in the opening credits, whether or not he's in the episode.

I don't know what your point is, but

I think the implication is your claim to expertise is slightly tenuous.....

Might be wrong.

1) There is no actor named Javid Iqbal that anyone can find as starring in Discovery; the IMDB page was created after the show started.
2) No actor named Javid Iqbal has been involved in any press or media coverage, interviews, or panels at conventions.
3) No one has seen the actor named Javid Iqbal.
4) despite playing a major role in every episode to date, the actor playing Voq does not appear in the opening credits.
5) Latif's given last name is Iqbal.
6) Latif was initially listed as playing "the protege of T'kuvma."

THIS IS EVIDENCE. It's anecdotal to be sure, but that's evidence, just as footage of someone fleeing the scene of the crime is also considered evidence.

Is it hard evidence? Is it definitive? No, but it leaves me with the conclusion that something fishy is going on, and Latif playing Voq is certainly the only reasonable theory i've heard.

Posit another one, and i'll consider it.

I'm almost convinced now that that's the sole reason for the inclusion of Lorca's pet tribble in the first place — so that we will see it react when Tyler visits the captain's ready room.

I tend to discount that alone now, as Anthony Rapp was in the credits of the premiere. But I find it odd that the primary villain of the series, appearing in every episode, would not get star billing.

It's certainly possible that this is all nothing, and for some inexplicable reason, Javid Iqbal is just hiding out in a cave somewhere, but right now I think there's enough to conclude that the actor is playing Voq, and the creation of Iqbal is misdirection.

I don't think anyone would be foolish to believe it as I do, nor foolish to be skeptical, as DFW is.

I took the unheard of step of googling Javid Iqbal and got this guy. That might possibly be him under the prosthetics, hard to be sure, but being dead might be a slight hindrance.

They did seem to make the tribble's presence very plain and obvious in that premiere which at the time I just took to be fan service. Looking back, it certainly could be setting up just the scene you describe.

If he hasn't taxidermied it like the rest of his dead playthings.
