    Okay then...

Next question, did Roddenberry ever get in touch with his old WWII buddy who he named Khan Noonien Singh and Noonian Soong after?

This has been asked elsewhere on the net and the consensus seems to be no. There's no evidence that a Kim Noonien Singh existed out of Roddenberry's word, and no reference to him regaining contact with Singh, after his last character naming. And it's highly likely that he misremembered the name (some source it as Noonien Wang, and some think he may have even been a Nguyen).

What's wrong with "chief"? What about O'Brien, who was called "The Chief" on DS9. I don't think Chief is actually a native American word, it just means the boss.

I don't think any Trek is in danger of being redubbed. That would fall under a sort of historical vandalism.

Didn't say I wanted it to happen. I guess Uhura's comment in "The Savage Curtain" would argue against it: "But why should I object to that term, sir? You see, in our century we've learned not to fear words."

I guess one of the things we occasionally use at work would be changed (if that ruling applied here) as it's called the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight but everyone just shortens that.

We could redub it to "Chef" O'brien would be "The Chef" because he can cook up any solution.

It could also be considered a micro-aggression to assume Native Americans would get offended by the word 'chief' used in a completely different context.

They could re-dub all references to Klingon ship captains and the Klingon leader of the council to be "chief." And every time a Klingon is called a warrior, it could be re-dubbed to "brave."

And all use of the word honor would be changed to "salmon."

Worf: "The Romulans are without salmon."

In French, the word chef simply means chief or boss. It's part of many executive job titles in France. When we use the word in English, it's really short for chef de cuisine.

And maybe this thread should be moved to the Misc. forum or TNZ -- for reasons that I think are self-evident.

Ah, so chief and chef must have an etymological relation.

After all of the speculation on what USS stands for, has anyone considered "United Star Service"?

Çhief can also mean "primary", as in "Not studying is the chief reason for failing tests".

Ok I wasn't sure where to post this. So therefore I didn't start a new thread for it. Have any of you ever saw something in another work of fiction or on screen that reminded you of Trek but it actually had nothing to do with Trek.

In the prehistoric novel Clan of the Cave Bear. There is a Neanderthal boy named Borg and a hunter named Gorn.

Yes. The Goblins in the Harry Potter world that run the bank remind me strongly of Ferengi.

I've never seen Harry Potter. What do the goblins look like? I was wondering because Mrs. Troi called that Ferengi a troll once.

It would be easier for you to Google them than for me to try to describe their appearance. And the resemblance isn't so much what they look like than how they act, though their appearance is rather gnome like

Was baby Miral born inside the Borg transwarp conduit or once Voyager had come out the other side in the Alpha Quadrant?

And did the entire crew have their cigars lit by the time they reached Earth orbit? Tom used up all of his remaining replicator rations for the year on those...

Hello, I was just wondering if the origins of the Borg has ever been explored?
