Episode 5-9 titles revealed

Yeah, they really do. There was something magical in that first season. Learning the characters and the universe. My first new Trek. Of course, nostalgia plays a part in it. But, I simply don't care about any of the characters on Discovery. To me, they've done a terrible job of selling the characters as anything other than chess pieces to move the plot from point A to point B.

Add into that, they are simply going where Star Trek has already been. It has been dull to an extreme level.
There are a lot of terms I've used to describe TNG season one. 'Magical' wasn't on of them...Crap, Lazy, Self-Serving, TOS Season 4 picking right off where the worst of Season 3 left off..Star Trek Phase II done badly...but 'Magical'...nope. ;)

And although you've never said is, plenty of people have claimed TNG never tried to harken/call back to TOS like ST: D...yeah, right:
- Somehow Admiral Leonard McCoy (now 140+ years old and played by DeForest Kelly) just happened to be at Farpoint station (itself supposedly on the edge of known space) to do a 'Medical layout Inspection of the 1701-D.

- If you look in the background of most Conference Room or Sick Bay scenes where they are discussing plot points, you'll notice a lot of TOS era props or ship and Galileo Shuttlecraft models in the background

...NOPE, they (TNG) weren't trying to scream "Hey, really, this IS connected to TOS!"...oh, wait,,, ;)

It's Only a Paper Mushroom
Take me Out to the Mushroom
Looking for Mushrooms in All the Wrong Places

Who can forget those classics, "The Inner Mushroom," "The Last Mushroom," and "Preemptive Mushroom?"

And the hundred or so episodes that by this logic would just be named "Mushroom." ;)

But seriously, I'm really liking these titles, and I hope that they live up to their promise. I was a little underwhelmed by the first couple titles, and liked but didn't love the first two episodes. But I'm liking Discovery more the weirder it gets, so I'm all in on batshit crazy titling. :)

I love it when people try to defend DSC by making fun of Trekkies who were complaining about TNG back then in 1987-88...
The point being that what is now being defended as the sacred unbreakable canon was once the hated usurper which would never be accepted.
...and then the same people try to defend DSC by saying that TNG sucked ass back in 1987-88!!!

Which is an entirely different point than whether TNGs first season is any good. There are aspects of TNG which were bang on from day one, most of them to do with production design and other behind the scenes work. That's symptomatic of the problem, actually, focusing so much on setting up this new Enterprise that the stories fell by the wayside.

You're kidding, right? The Naked Now? Code of Honor? OMFG.

Thank you for proving my point above!

Human characters who resemble real jerks behaving like complete dicks to each other. They have to be the most unlikeable and unsympathetic crew we’ve ever seen in Star Trek. The worst episode of TOS or TNG at least had in it characters with empathy and charisma.
Like Plato's Stepchildren? LOL

Where the antagonists of Plato’s Stepchildren a Starfleet crew?

I've noticed this too, the amount of anti-Voyager and anti-Enterprise references have increased. That's not much in the way of showing how good Discovery is, is it?

Except your point has one major flaw - we all hated TNG at first. I did. To this day I think TNG's first season was ass. But OVERALL it was an excellent show. I was in college when it first aired, there wasn't even Usenet yet to talk about it and I didn't have CompuServe or AOL.

He also said that the first season of Discovery was the best first season of any Trek show ever.
Wow. Encounter at Farpoint, The Naked Now, Code Of Honor and the Last Outpost really beat 1-4 of Discovery for you?
A bold statement by Mr Mack indeed Ricky! He may be right...He may be wrong...Unlike any of us he has read 'all' the scripts in the writers room so I guess his opinion has more validity at this stage than all of us making a judgement on a show that has only screened 4 eps! He is also a great Trek writer so that works in his favour with me! But maybe he hates what they have done with those scripts now? I doubt it! Discovery is certainly not my fav first season yet - after- and I say again - 4eps! And I still have some concerns about the show - But I'd rather watch it's first four eps than the entire Next Gen's first season. and most of Voyagers and Enterprises First! Having said yet, no Trek, in my opinion, in it's first season, has aired an ep better than 'Duet' yet,...And that season of DS9 was it's weakest by far!

Actually, Discovery is lacking compared to modern dramas. Like The Handmaid's Tale, Mr. Robot, The Man in the High Castle, Mad Men, House of Cards.

Um, ok. That's all you have to say..."it's lacking" and we're 4 episodes in and you can't cite anything else?

I've seen you incite arguments on this forum.

I've went over where I think the show has failed thus far, in more than one post. You can go read those if you need more. :techman:
