What would you change about this series?

The Overlord

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I have seen a fair amount of complaints about this show, so I have to ask, what would you want changed about this series?

1. Very little spoken Klingon. I think the best practice would be to have the Klingon cast speak English in scenes where only Klingons are around, but speak Klingon if in mixed company (to make it clear when Humans and other Federation members can't understand them).
2. Less Klingon makeup. A "re-imagining" is fine, but the makeup is too heavy and getting in the way of the acting.
3. Getting rid of the prologue entirely, maybe salvaging a few bits as backstory flashbacks.
4. Slowing everything way the fuck down. The past two episodes were okay, but instead of using an A/B plot it was more like an A/B/C/D plot. You need time and space to let the character interactions flow properly.

I like DSC very much...I've consistently given "8's" to each episode I believe. That said, there's always room for improvement.

Also- It's very early yet...so remember I'm only operating off of less than 4 hours of total screen time here.

1. I'd like to see a little more planet-side adventure. Maybe they need to find and artifact on a planet that is part of Lorca's "menagerie" collection. Maybe they need to seek an alliance with some species for some reason. Whatever. It doesn't need to be every week..but I'd like more of what we saw in the first 10 mins of the "Vulcan Hello."

2. A little bit tighter writing. The episodes are very enjoyable...but sometimes you find yourself asking "why didn't they self-destruct the Shenzhu?" or "How did T'Mushmouth's ship just float out there untouched for that long?" and you start to realize there are some details that could have been ironed out better.

3. I wouldn't have as much Klingon language in the show. The makeup, costumes and sets are so gorgeous...but my eyes are focused on the subtitles...and that bums me out.

4. Going back to the beginning of "Battle at the Binary Stars," I'd like to see more flashbacks of how Michael evolved into who she is now.

5. A little more levity would be ok from time to time. I still think there's more than people are willing to admit...but it's so relentlessly tense and serious...sometimes I just need a breather. (But, I like Trek when it's tense and serious. See also: TMP and TWOK)

Release it a few hours earlier so I can watch it Sunday night rather than Monday night.
I agree. This forced time delay is stupid when they could easily put those episodes online at the same time all over the globe. I'm sure it's a contractual thing between CBSAA and Netflix, but it sucks to always be late to these discussions after a new episode. Yes, we are getting the new episodes faster than ever before, but still, it could be even better.

1) Set the timeline about a hundred years post Nemesis.

2) Hire someone who has an acting range larger then "same character every role" to play Burnham.

3) Have the war be with a newly discovered race that Burnham fucked up first contact with instead of the Klingons.

4) Improved set lighting and get rid of the blue filter.

5) Tighten up the writing all around so we aren't deluged with continual plot holes.

6) Cameo by the Doctor to bookend the series with Voyager.

1) No spore drive or any other clearly era inappropriate tech (holograms can stay, though maybe use them a bit more sparingly.)

2) Dial back the darkness a notch, both metaphorically and literally.

3) A tad more visual continuity, TOS inspired uniforms and set colour schemes, round engines for fed ships, Klingon ships that fit the design lineage, and for the love of Kahless, give the poor Klingons some hair!

4) Don't kill Georgiou...

So is this thread for constructive wishes for realistic things to change on the show as it is right now or just another opportunity for people to air grievances about what they wished the show would have been in the first place?
