He hath been seen! The lesser spotted Ash Tyler...Showed a clip of him in the nick at the panel at Paleyfest apparently! I I wont say from which ep in case my fellow Tyler fanatics do not wish to be spoiled!

i still don't understand why he was credited as a Series regular. I have never seen a show where a main character made their first appearance 3 episodes in.

I think that is probably contractual...His character was a really late edition (he was originally cast as a Klingon I think) but that was very late in the writing process I believe - Probably after first two eps were written? He may have even have joined after Fuller left...So they may have had to re-write scripts or wait to 'ease' his character in! I think Fuller wanted a Brit to play the Doc at first so his character may have been re-shaped from that idea (But obviously not as a doctor!) Has been a bit odd and haphazard the way the 'crew' has been introduced so far! But I suspect that has been due to the famous 'issues' in writing and pre-production...Shazad is a good actor and charismatic presence in any show I've seen him in England - and his ep and introduction looks good though from what I have been told! Hope his character is worth the wait!

So is he Voq? It would take considerable technology to turn him into a human who could fool the ship's doctor.

Interestingly, although Memory Alpha has an actor listed for Voq (Javid Iqbal) the only place this seems to be listed on the web is there and IMDB. I wonder if this was some sort of subterfuge on the part of the showrunners.

OR just the good old Dr Phlox's Patented Klingon Flu Cure "One Dose And a Lifetime of Shame"
got to be some sitting around in a vial somewhere. Unless Dr Soong's clones have stolen it.

According to IMDB Javid Iqbal was in 'Guilty: the webseries' playing 'Javid'. I went to their site, found the episode he was in and I think this is him as the character is called Javid.

It is strange Iqbal hasn't been on any promotional things, he's basically the Klingon side of the show lead!

It's hard to tell given the heavy makeup Voq wears, but the facial structure looks more like Latif than Iqbal.

Of course, they could still use a different actor for Voq and then switch to Latif once he turns augment and becomes Ash Tyler.

Ok, so episode 4 of DSC has aired, so what is being said from this point onwards is pure speculation. I believe that Voq will morph into a human, more specifically a member of the Discovery's main cast that is yet to be introduced; Lieutenant Ash Tyler played by Shazad Latif. This may seem like a stretch but bear with me. So in Episode 4, L’Rell tells Voq, that he must “sacrifice everything” to achieve his goal of uniting the Klingon Houses. Many have speculated that this implies that Voq will morph into the more human looking TOS Klingons, but I believe it may go further. Back to Lieutenant Tyler, it was initially announced that Shazad Latif was cast as the Klingon Kol, before Kenneth Mitchell took that role and Latif was recast as Tyler. http://tvline.com/2017/04/28/star-trek-discovery-cast-kenneth-mitchell-kol-cbs-all-access/ Of course, there could be numerous reasons for why this happened, behind the scenes drama etc, but it was curious that Latif was recast from a Klingon to a Starfleet officer. Now back to the character of Voq.

In the few episodes aired so far, he is one of the Klingon Character’s to have taken centre stage, even being named as T’Kuvma’s successor. However, there was barely any mention of him in the promotional material and there were no casting announcements affiliated with the characters; unlike the other Klingons. This implies a level of secrecy surrounding the character. Now back to Lieutenant Tyler again, the preview shown at NYCC states that he and Harry Mudd, are introduced on the shows 5th episode aboard a Klingon prison ship. Apparently Lieutenant Tyler is a prisoner of war, captured at the Battle of the Binary stars. The preview for the 5th episode “Choose Your Pain”, shows Captain Lorca getting captured by L’Rell. Harry Mudd makes an appearance in the preview, but curiously both Voq and Tyler are missing. So tying all this speculation together, I think that Voq is Lieutenant Tyler. He “sacrifices everything” by becoming more human (matriarchs of House Mokai).

The Klingons probably let him and Lorca be “rescued” by the Discovery in the next episode. This allows Voq, as Lieutenant Tyler, to infiltrate Discovery, learn about the spore drive, giving Klingon’s the upper hand in this war etc. On a side note, it seems odd that Latif’s character is the only main cast member that hasn’t been introduced, and his introduction coincides with L’Rell’s capture of Captain Lorca in the next episode. Of course, this is all pure speculation, and I could be proven wrong in next week’s episode or some point throughout the season. Let me know in the comments would appreciate your thoughts.

Evidence?

Javid Iqbal has no picture on Internet Movie Database other than Voq or any other acting roles so it's obviously a pseudonym.

We were talking about this in this thread :p

https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/the-mysterious-mr-tyler.290260/

This internet is clearly suggesting this, but i also worry - are we successively looking for a Westworld or Mr Robot twist that might be our silly training to expect big changes, a la Mr Robot or the Man in Black? Also would showrunners choose to do something like this when, as with those two shows, fans correctly predicted things through reddit weeks in advance of the showrunners' chosen revelation episode?

Iqbal does have a Facebook profile and his web series he was in was real, including images to him, and he is linked to in it. But maybe they have asked the actor to be 'Voq' in attribution if not in reality. But again, I fear the hunt for twists is too much afoot (as with the ott propagation of S31).

Well it actually means that all of this weird ass character development and Klingon focus is leading somewhere.

It would be the case of, "The Taliban member seeing Americans aren't all bad."

It would also lead to an inevitable moment where Michael, who will probably befriend him, has to decide whether to kill him or not and will thus make up for her executing T'kuvma.
