News Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville

So far it's enjoyable. Some of the humor falls flat but I like it overall.

I think overall it catches much of the spirit of trek. It's doing a good job of storytelling and trying to balance out drama and comedy. Will be curious to see how.it develops.

As many have pointed out plenty of episodes to be inspired by

Plus curious to see if Shatner or Stewart make a guest appearance. Kind of surprised one of them hasn't yet

The week of October 19 is supposedly a rerun of the pilot.

OK, I see the 5 stars on Halsey from ep.1, I wasn't sure there would be more than one fleet admiral.

But if this new admiral is wearing the same color, that's some lighting difference. Looks like dark gray with a hint of purple here.

It is a wartime only thing. Further, there's only one fleet admiral at a time. Clearly the Union is following a different rule system there.
 
There were four five-star admirals, at the same time, during WW-2:
William D. Leahy – December 15, 1944.
Ernest J. King – December 17, 1944.
Chester W. Nimitz – December 19, 1944.
William F. Halsey, Jr. – December 11, 1945.

EDIT: Just noticed, only three DURING the war, and one shortly after.

Looks more like a saturation thing to me. The top image looks heavily saturated, while the bottom one appears as though it is under more normal lighting and has been desaturated (not saying you did that).
 
The interior set design isnt quite on par with the sets of Star Trek: While the Orville ship has a very organic shape, the inside is very rectangle with sharp edges. It doesnt reflect the organic flow of the ship at all. TNG did it better in this case, since the organic shape was also used inside the ship with round edges and avoiding sharp 90 degree angles as much as possible. The whole ship represented one design philosophy while the Orville represents two different ones.

Also in many shots you only have these bland papered walls as background. When u look at the Star Trek shows the walls are always covered with shapes that suggest panels, layers of materials/color shades, functional objects. Voyager did this even better compared to TNG. Rarely a background is only a papered wall.

So when it comes to set design, Orville in 2017 is actually a step back compared to 90's Star Trek.
