News Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville

Do you think The Orville will do a "holodeck malfunction" episode or at this point it's a discredited trope..?

That is something I've been wondering about. On the one hand, I really hope not since holodeck malfunctions are a worn out trope that I wouldn't mind never having to deal with again. On the other, the wild west scene with Mexican banditos dancing to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was the best holodeck scene ever, which leads me to believe that if this show did do a holodeck malfunction they could do a really fun and awesome one.

Yeah, you don't need the holodeck to malfunction with Malloy around.

And if there is an actual malfunction, everybody will blame Malloy anyway.

Okay, that could be a fun twist on the holodeck trope. Have everyone go to run their favourite programs, only to find out Malloy has messed around with the program somehow.

You know, I understand why from a story point of view they eliminated the communications officer in TNG (really, sometimes Uhura was only a glorified telephone operator). But from in-universe it doesn't make much sense because a Starship can receive comunication virtually from all the galaxy. It would be probably a full-time job. And I imagine that during a battle who involve a lot of enemies an allied ships, It would be a little difficult for the tactical officer fights and coordinates with the other units.
That's bugged me for a while too. I would think Conn would make more sense for running the comm system than Tactical.
A scientist from another dimension named Rick Sanchez told them that they had to use it, or else their "show would be cancelled". They didn't quite know what that meant, but it sounded bad.
Now I really, really want a Orville/Rick and Morty crossover.

Orville/Discovery are all tell, and no show. Or they show the obvious, but tell us in 5 different ways anyway just to make sure we got it.
To be fair, Im 2 episodes behind on Orville.

Yeah, I got that, It still didn't have any impact for me though. It was too easy, too pat.
I laughed my butt off, and everyone in the room with me looked at me like I was mad. (Well, honestly, like they had been reminded that I'm mad - they do know me. ;) ) The dig at Beyoncé and her songwriters was anachronistic and took me out of the show for just a moment, but it was totally worth it.

If they DO have a holodeck malfunction, Mercer (and maybe others) should constantly be bitching about how this ridiculously dangerous technology shouldn't be allowed on starships, and how the most obvious safeguards (like a universal and unchangeable "safe word") were never installed.
