Just have Malloy wander into the bridge with rope-burns and bruises and a throwaway "forgot my holodeck safe word."
What are they calling the holodecks on this show, anyway? I haven't noticed it - are they just calling them games? That would be good.
Yeah, I think it's called an "Environmental Simulator" or something like that.I thought the door from the first episode read "simulator". I could be wrong.
Did either of the other two episodes deal with a race the Union hadn't encountered before? If not then I could see not having any comments about a translator before, but I would have expected something in last week's episode. I'm not really bothered by it, but it is a little surprising we didn't at least get even a quick line about making sure their translators were turned on or something.
This is something that was covered in the TOS Writer's Guide: to the characters the futuristic technology they use is commonplace and they aren't going to stop and explain what it is and how it works anymore than a cowboy explains his gun or his horse in a western. I get the impression MacFarlane wants to go in roughly the same direction with Orville, the characters aren't going to explain the translators or holodecks or whatever because to them, it's common everyday things they probably don't even think about. A better approach than TNG-onwards Trek which did have the characters over-explaining everything with the most non-sensical technobabble imaginable.Did either of the other two episodes deal with a race the Union hadn't encountered before? I wonder if they are ever going to acknowledge a universal translator or babblefish in the show. But OK with me if they don't.
How about "translator microbes"...nope, done too.
