Voyager Season 5

Yes, of course... I thought of you when that character was introduced actually. Hopefully you're not also a man of "few pleasures"... ;)
Yeah, I came to this site and was reading a thread, and really wanted to say something, so when signing up and makingIa screen name, I thought "quick! Think of a good, nerdy trekkian name," and immediately I heard in my head Kashyk yelling "Praaxxxx!"

Someone told me on here that it was the name of a Roman Official who persecuted Christians, but I thankfully couldn't find anything about it; they must have been mistaken. And the name itself means "practical" which is quite fitting for the character.

Kashyk is the name of Chewbacca's home planet.

Prax is a great name!
Almost as good as Lynx! ;)

@cosmic mouse
So where are you at? Have you seen Bride of Chaotica yet, or Bliss, or Dark Frontier?

I only just watched Latent Image, which I liked, last night, so Chaotica is next I think. I'm behind, but I did watch an interesting film called Idaho Transfer yesterday. If you're into obscure, quirky 70s sci fi I recommend checking it out.
But I'll get back on track, hopefully with 2 VOY eps tonight! :techman:

Chaotica was great!! It really made me laugh on several occasions and, in particular, I liked the ready room scene when Tom is explaining to Janeway what's going on, and then she automatically looked to Seven to play the role of Arachnia... aside from looks there is no way Seven would have been able to pull that one off! She's too deadpan and objective; Janeway was perfect for it though. And it's a good thing Seven got replaced as Constance Goodheart, otherwise bam! :lol: I also liked the very (and I mean very slight, to the point i may have imagined it) stance of both Seven and Chak in the ready room.. they seemed aligned in a non-verbal, non-physical way somehow. Since they are 2 out of my 3 favorites characters it added a little to the scene for me. Another great ep imo...

Gravity was okay, but I didn't love it. I loved that it focused on Tuvok (he doesn't get enough focus eps), but I thought it could have been a bit more engaging and I'm sorry, but I just don't care for Lori Petty. I think another actress would have been better in that role but just my humble thoughts on it. I still found it decent though.. I'm starting to agree with some of you that there are no truly bad eps in this series (so far).

Bliss is next! (hopefully tonight or sometime over the weekend)...

Apparently it's a drug:

Kashyk is the name of Chewbacca's home planet.
That one is spelt with three y's:
Kashyyyk
I'm starting to agree with some of you that there are no truly bad eps in this series (so far).

Has anyone said that? Can't really argue with it although I would modify it a little. I think FURY (Season 6) is a bad episode. Then, there are all the boring ones towards the end of Season 6, most notably THE HAUNTING OF DECK TWELVE ... yawn. But I'm not very keen on LIVE FAST AND PROSPER or MUSE, either. I think that there's a bump in the road towards the end of Season 6 - but Season 7 more than makes up for it.
Then, there are some really dark episodes for me I'm not really enthusiastic about: THE CHUTE, NEMESIS, RETROSPECT. EMANATIONS and JUGGERNAUT aren't exactly my fav eps either, although I think they are a bit better than the other three.
Not that I have a problem with these darker eps ... but they would certainly do much better on superdark DS9. They feel so unVoyager to me.
So how many were these? Fewer than ten? You're right, there are no truly bad eps on this show. Statistically speaking that is ... :rommie::rommie::rommie:

Fury's not that bad. It has some good moments, like when Tuvok......, or that part when Neelix.......

And Muse is like one of the greatest episodes ever. It's like a satire for the writers room, and the audience. I wish they had done more 4th wall kinds of episodes in Star Trek.

Agreed on both episodes

@Sophie74656,

"Bride of Chaotica" was a total classic. Loved Janeway in her portrayal of Queen Arachnia. I laugh every time when Chaotica works his charms and she looks away rolling her eyes lol

Bliss and Dark Frontier were both great...
Bliss was actually a rewatch, but I didn't know it was called Bliss when I first, randomly watched it. I appreciated it more this time, probably because of watching the series in sequence. I liked Qatai... he was Captain Ahab and Quint rolled into one: a salty, little bit crazy, but likable guy. He, Seven, Naomi, and the Doc were a motley crew, but they were engaging, and ultimately effective against the ... whatever it was called... that trapped Voyager. This episode reminded of an X-Files ep called "Field Trip", but the VOY ep actually aired first (~2 months prior), which leaves me wondering about how original that X-Files ep was. The idea was almost exactly the same, except it didn't take place in space.

Dark Frontier was also good, and on Netflix streaming it's apparently shown in its full scope, as opposed to being separated into 2, normal lengths eps. You can see where the cliffhanger would have been though. Of course, I liked it because it's a Seven ep, but it did further that mother-daughter relationship between her and Janeway, which was good for both characters. Hopefully they continue to expound on that in future eps. Overall, I liked the way Seven's personality is slowly progressing and developing... you can see she's applied past experiences and learned behavior gradually, which makes it more realistic imo. Too bad they couldn't get Alice Krige to play the Borg Queen though... the actress here was good, but no patch on Krige.

I actually think it would make sense if it was s different actress each time. In First Contact the body of the Queen was destroyed so in my head canon the Queen program called up another drone and made her into the new queen.

I prefer Alice Krige, too. I wonder. If she ever apprised the role of Borg Queen....

Could someone teach me how to add a spoiler box so I can finish this comment? I couldn't find the page that explains the text editor.

Bracket= [ ]

I'll try to type it out since I can't find the tag on my phone either...

Type the word spoiler between 2 brackets, insert stuff cosmic mouse shouldn't read , type spoiler in between 2 brackets but place / before the word spoiler

I prefer Alice Krige, too. I wonder. If she ever apprised(apprised? That word looks wrong for some reason) the role of Borg Queen....

Interestingly, the Queen appears
4
times between TNG and Voyager, and one time off screen (BOBW) and she dies/is destroyed in
every single one of the
episodes.

In First Contact, she tells Picard she was there when he was Locutus, and he replies "Youuuu wurrrrr theaaaa.... BBBBUT THAT's IMPOSSIBLE!!!"
The queen replies "You think in such 'three dimensional' terms.":lol:

(Although my thumbs are angry, adding spoiler brackets is kinda fun! There's great potential for new ways of adding humor)

Hmmm...my bad, TE. I thought you said that at one point, or something to that effect. I forgot you said you didn't like The Chute. So let me amend: there are practically no bad eps in this series. ;)
:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
Going by what I said about the episodes above, this is actually true. And apart from FURY, I'm fine with every episode, including THE CHUTE. It's just that I think it's too dark for VOY. It would do much better on DS9, I think.
But all in all, there are so few episodes on this show that I hate (=1) or that I'm not very keen on (= fewer than 5%) that this is the only show that comes somewhere near perfect in my book.
I mean my second fav show would be StarGate SG-1 and I can't stand all the (completely unnecessary from where I'm standing) political eps, which means there are at least 30 I can barely watch. So if VOY is not (near) perfect, what is?
Great write up. This is also one of my favorite episodes.
Thanks. One or two years ago I did this with quite a few episodes when @tomalak301 had a rewatch thread and this is why I don't really feel like repeating myself. But since someone had to start this thread I thought that this would be a good idea to start with.

...this requires a clever retort, but I have nothing as it's Monday morning. ...and there are no sleeping smileys on this board, so:

Coffee. Black. :shifty:
