Okay.. hit me. What what is wrong with sex? What is wrong with including good looking people in our future??
Nothing. Include casual nudity and the love instructors for all I care. But when it is always only the women who get sexualised and put into skin tight catsuits then it is not OK.

Are we sure that that's what women, and younger women are into?

Ummm... Terry Farrel was without a doubt eye candy :techman:
If we keep ourselves to the intentions of the producers when casting, Berman admits that Farrell was brought in because she had the combination of beauty and talent they looked for, but that was more for being modelesque rather than for any va-va-voom.

I wasn’t going for the va-va-boom aspect, merely pointing out that DS9 did have such characters.

What 'such characters'? That many actors are more attractive looking than people on average is given. No one is saying that they shouldn't cast beautiful people. It's just that there is no need for blatant sexualisation, Jadzia for example was not given special cat suit uniform nor can I recall scenes of decontamination gel being rubbed on her.

Relationships and sexuality are profound aspects of humanity that should certainly be addressed in a meaningful way in Star Trek, as Trek at its best is a vehicle of the imagination for exploring the human condition.

But the show does not need some crass, meaningless objectification by means of "sex symbols" serving no purpose except for puerile titillation every week. That's a lazy way to sell a TV show.

I was replying to Turbo and he/she used the term eye candy, so I replied in kind. You’d have to go back to Turbos post for context.

Why did the writers feel the need to put Burnham in that skimpy outfit for the radioactivity healing scene?

Was it to make a certain demographic pop a stiffy ala TPol and Seven of Nine?

Also, did anyone notice the gratuitous booty shots of both Burham and Yeoh in the transporter boarding scene on the Klingon ship? You could see some major cheeks through the spandex.

And this is "progress"?
