What established Trek character should be made a series regular in season2 of "Discovery" if needed?

Personally, I think it's obvious Jason Isaacs is the villain and will be gone (or dead) by the end of Season One.
They should bring in someone to be the new Discovery Captain (and hopefully series lead) with charisma, to retool the show in case it doesn't work.
I'd like to see 'Captain Stone' commanding the Discovery during the Klingon war. He was 'Commodore Stone during Kirk's time and the first established Black captain in Star Trek (Court Martial). He spoke to Kirk about the responsibilities of commanding a starship.
Get an actor with strong gravitas and you'll have something great.

I could only tolerate well known characters appearing if they are CGI'd to look like the original actor. But one off characters go ahead and recast,

My thinking, (and yes, it hurts) if they do that, the logical choice would seem to be Amanda.
Or maybe Sybok.

I'd also love to see Richard Robau return, possibly as the Federation President (Faran Tahir has said he'd love to play Robau again if asked).

True, but that was 9 years before DSC takes place.
But what if the new actor is a great singer. They could get one of the kids from "Glee" who I imagine is still young enough to play a cadet age character.

Admiral Robau wouldn't defeat the Klingon Empire in battle. The Klingon Empire would see Robau approaching their fleet and surrender.
