What established Trek character should be made a series regular in season2 of "Discovery" if needed?

While it's unknown how popular or how good the show is their is always a chance we will see new series regulars added in later years to either help win fans over or just for creative reasons. Now that we have seen a glimpse as to what the show will look like, which established characters do you think would fit in as a regular? Also you can't count Sarek or Mudd from this season. I got 2 off the top of my head.

1 Scotty: We know he served on other ships as a engineer and I think he was even Chief Engineer before Enterprise so it might be fun if Discovery was one of those ships. I would also be open to Simon Pegg playing the character because it's Simon Pegg and if you can get him you go for it.

2 Janice Lester: What better thing could the show do for "TOS" than to reform the character by making her kind of insane and maybe even a villian. Crazy is always a fun trope when it comes to villians and I guess you could go with Garth as well. Still it also serves the benefit of saving that final episode's, liberal butt by making the sexism go away and helping make her "No woman captain's" line and behavior in Kirk's body be that of a crazy person instead of from a writer who wasn't very progressive.

But would you want them to be a series regular? I wouldn't mind that alien communications officer from Pike's Enterprise in those old "Early Voyages" comics being made a regular. He also looks like the funny looking alien in the "TOS" cartoon which also might be a character you could use. It might be the first Trek character to come from book/comic to tv or movie.

A Pike and Spock Enterprise would be useful as a ratings grabber, so I'm sure they'll give it a go at some point. As to them being a regular starship on the show? I'm not sure how that would work, but it wouldn't bother me. I don't think we'll see that happen though.

I could see them maybe as recurring who are in 3 to 5 episodes and play a pivot role in that seasons story so they feel like series regulars.

That I could see them trying to do, even still, I don't think it'll happen. Personally, I'd love it if they did something like that.

I'd go with none, as my first choice. Second choice? Leonard McCoy. We know he wasn't with the Enterprise until 2265. Plenty of territory there. Could still be a civilian physician in 2256.

Traveler Wesley Crusher. Except he's known only as "Ensign Robert" and isn't revealed until the series finale. The Traveler returns, they both get high on the mushrooms, Wesley strips naked (muttering something about his mom's friend's wedding) and they both warp away. And the journey continues...

If there was going to be *ANY*, it should be the Romulan commander from Balance of Terror, since he always felt like a fascinating character. Not seen in person by the Discoveries crew obviously.

Other potentials - Q (maybe not, too TNG), Kor and Koloth. If the show gets closer to the Kirk time period, captain Pike NEEDS to make an appearance (along with needing to see the maiden voyage of the Enterprise, with Spock and Michael interacting).
