CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Do they have any leads on who might have done this? I know nothing of the details but it all seems quite targetted, somehow.

Bad stuff, no matter who's responsible and if I had any info about who did it, I would certainly speak up. Of course, there is crime in the Atlanta area, just like everywhere else so it could have been random.

I am curious if there was any theft of particular things - set dressings or props, or a lock box containing cash broken into, or just general vandalism. Any of these, of course, would be a depressing shame, but would lend some insight into motive and suspect.

No one has stolen anything from Starbase Studios. It's time for that rumor to get shut down. A few items that were owned (bought, built and paid for) by a former staff member were taken back after he recently left the group.

I am really wondering what will show up if the emails are released. Will there be open admissions of attempting to drag out fundraising specifically to acquire more studio assets? Of knowing that statements made to the public are false? Of entitled intentionality in spending for personal gain? Or will it all reflect an honest and respectful team in over their heads, doing their best to make a movie and be a nonprofit but not able to bring their act together?

Considering how amazingly personally disrespectful of fans, stars, and others some moments in the Axanar podcasts, comments in the Axanar fan site, and so on have been, I have my guess. But it will be interesting to see and may just put a permanent end to Axanar-world if its blatant.

Nobody here was starting any rumors, merely asking questions to avoid the furtherance of rumors - not to be nosy, but out of genuine concern. In light of the general tumult that the fan film industry has found itself in this year, the concern is rational and understandable.

So, what you're saying seems to imply that a break-in never took place at all, but that someone took things back, ostensibly with the full knowledge and awareness of the staff - totally above-board and legitimate, yes?

Re: Starbase Studios: I actually reached out to Michael King last night over these rumors, and expect to hear back from him today or tomorrow.

Re: Emails: @Mu Cephi: I don't think any of Alec's followers will have their minds changed by the release of emails, damning or not. I don't think any of Alec's critics will have their minds changed by the release of emails, damning or not. All it will do is give each side more to argue about. :/

I'm reminded of the guy on Mythbusters: "I reject your reality and substitute my own!"

Unfortunately. But I think every revelation cycle shaves more people off the donor block, fans who aren't necessarily in the discussion groups. If by chance (and I have no knowledge of the emails) something like "official plan (Top Secret): the point of Axanar is to keep donation cycles going until we get our studio built and win multiple film contracts" were to appear, I think you might lop off 95% of the few remaining donors. After all, the memo would be about them and their goals.

But who knows. I certainly don't, except to read into how donors have been treated up to now.

Adam substituted analysis and evidence for myth. ;)

That is correct, yes.

Understood, thank you.

This most likely means, then, that someone close to the production, or someone close to someone close to the production, vehemently disagreed with the legitimate removal of said items - probably even mistakenly believed the items belonged to the production and not the person - and started the rumor that there was a break-in and subsequent property theft.

Those in charge of the production should look closely to their own inner circle as the starting point for this unfortunate misunderstanding, provided the identity of the person in question has not already been ascertained.

Most of what you suggest actually was already found in discovery during the lawsuit. The long-term plan for the studio, to form the foundation for commercial film projects, was also outlined in the Axanar annual report. It was also explicitly stated by Alec Peters in his September 2015 Chicks Who Script podcast appearance, where he stated, "The studio is the endgame." The continuing donation cycles were explicitly referred to in Axanar's Indiegogo pitch, and in their plans for further merchandise production.

Yeah, there isn't going to be a "we're scamming the rubes!" smoking gun email. I think they honestly wanted to make the movie, but continually moved the goalposts again and again as to what constituted the point they were ready to begin filming.

Instead of a smoking gun the backers got a smoking crater.
