Do any of you use Movie Pass?

I vaguely remember hearing about this service, but I thought it wasn't available in the US. Good for them - movie tickets are too damn expensive. In San Francisco, AMC charges $13.20 for 2D evening show (plus a bullshit $1 fee to buy your ticket online unless you have a membership card), which is more than a month's unlimited Netflix streaming or an unlimited 2-disc DVD plan. Add $5 in two bus rides, and you can pretty much always buy a brand-new blu ray of the same movie (with Digital HD streaming and a dvd copy) in a few months' time.

Speaking of AMC, looks as though they aren't having this. It'll be interesting to see how this develops, for sure. I could probably definitely get used to a $10/month movie subscription, if it sticks around...

Agreed... I don't think we have any AMC theaters here any more, so no problem there... This summer has been kind of "meh" for movies for us, as we've been watching our spending.. Plus, now that my kids are older, the kiddie movies aren't much of a draw.. But I could definitely see this paying off in the long run. I'd have to watch my popcorn intake, however. LOL

Let me get this straight... unlimited movies for $10 a month?

Of course, their study of my viewing habits may be skewed somehow, as I would spend all month going and seeing any and all kinds of stupid movies that I would never pay for at regular prices!

Not exactly. One 2D screening per day, and no repeat viewings of any one movie. But yes, it could theoretically be a game-changer for many people, and possibly the theaters themselves.

So, part of the deal is you need to be within 100 yards of the theater when you select your ticket/showtime. Myself, I'm on an old, cancelled cell phone plan without data, so I'd need a public wifi close to my AMC to use this, and I'm not sure that exists. (To add data, I'd need to increase my phone bill by $15/mo., without the option to return to my current plan later.) Since I've got no other use for data at present, this would make the real cost of the service $25/mo. for me - still decent, but no longer eye-popping, plus a $15/mo. penalty if I ever leave the subscription, forever.
