They might well have those displays, and it would be a nice nod to previous shows to have them without it taking up screentime.
I don't see the NX-01, I see the NCC-1701 through -E Eaves even says in the comments of his blog that there was no NX-01 made for the movie. He also said, that not only are the ships not in order, the plaques below them don't even match the model.
Curious now which one of these @Timo thought was the NX. None of them ever looked like an NX class to me.
There is a second display case of another six ships on the other side of the room, which is just out of from frame on the side of the display showing of the Scimitar. https://johneaves.wordpress.com/2009/06/26/more-of-the-golden-starships/ But Eaves says there were just double of the one seen above.
There is leaked test footage of the older version of the Discovery from the original fx crew online. I don't want to post it however. Go look before it's gone.
Meh I don't like that footage 1) because the leaker stole it 2) it's old so it really doesn't matter 3) can't be authenticated 4) speculation sites using it for clicks. Nothing good comes from it.
Any new/public fan renders out there of the Discovery? I've seen a couple by Dave and I really can't wait to see more of the one TrekYards is using. Just curious because the design ques keep growing on me hahaha
Thanks for the heads up. As a fan of starships and their design process I truly appreciate it. To tell the truth I prefer the older style saucer and shorter nacelles. The older saucer was basically a bigger elongated version of the Oberth-class saucer and is such an interesting design that I'm surprised we haven't seen more of.
Watching Part 2 of the Trekyards discussion on the USS Discovery final design. It struck me just how horrible the Front, Back and Side views are for the ship. I am not expecting to see any Master System Displays showing the ship's orthographic views, but that may be for the best! LOL I am sure the SFX teams will find the best angles in the show itself though.
Just got off the phone with the president. He said it's real. It looks really nice actually. Will be interesting to compare with the final version in Sept.
On front views etc - in fairness to Discovery, most ships have unflattering views. Voyager was best seen at certain angles. The front view wasn't very flattering compared to the rest, and the beauty shot (underside) was one of the worst angles - which could be argued for the E-D and E-E as well. I hated the tweaks done to the Church Enterprise in Beyond - the top view being the worst angle possible. The smaller nacelles were heralded by some for being closer to the old, but it really threw the balance off the design. But Lin shot it in a way that made it look quite nice. That one singular shot of Discovery we've seen so far is whats selling me on the ship. It's such an unusual feeling design, and there's potentially a lot of great angles to show it off, and much like other ships; a lot of bad ones too.
