USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I know that some fans are emotionally attached to the TOS ship. That doesn't mean that when less invested viewers look at it they don't see a very old, outdated, simplistic design.

There is supposedly fantastically more modern Discovery next to the original Constitution. Here they both have the same crap level surface detail, so it is good for assessing the base shape only. And Connie stands up just fine. It is actually the Discovery which looks boxy and clunky here. Seriously, just give the Connie same sort of hyper detailed surface texture as the new ships have, and it will look absolutely fine, especially for a sort of short cameo appearance we're talking about here.

I do like how the nacelles look on Discovery here, with the orange glow on the front. To the subject, it would look OK to have a Connie on the series, especially if Discovery is going to be exploring and the Connies were primarily exploratory vessels. Even a quick shot of a rendezvous with one would work.

As long as it isn't painfully shoehorned into the episode or story and it's there for a logical reason, I'm all for it!

I don't understand how the simplicity of the original Connie makes it more primitive. More advanced and streamlined design should tend toward a smoother appearance, rather than a chunky and cluttered exterior like we keep getting in recent sci-fi.

Sorry, that's not an accurate surface treatment or rendering of Discovery.

Indeed it is not, and that was part of my point! We're talking about the basic shape here. Once the both ship have the same level of surface detail and quality of rendering (preferably high level, unlike low level seen here) they will look fine together.

You have been moaning about how the basic shape of TOS Connie id outdated and unusable, and you're just flat out wrong about that. No one is disputing that higher level of surface detail is required.

Same with, oh, the Jupiter II or the C57-D: I like Forbidden Planet even better than Star Trek and I love that saucer, but replicating it as the hero ship in a 2017 movie would tread close to parody (as did, for that matter, the Protector in Galaxy Quest - but then, the designers knew that).

Trufans are going to have to live with the fifty-eleven times that Trek has already done callbacks to the TOS since the 1987 reboots began. It ain't happening no more.
Well then IF the producers here actually do that (IE show a ship we know well from the era ST: D is supposed to be taking place in) - said Prpoducers should continually mention (as the have at SDCC and STLV) that ST: D takes place in the 'Prime Universe'. Again, neither the U.S.S. Shenzhou or U.S.S. Discovery have never been seen before inthis era so their external design is fair game to be whatever they (the producers) want. The NCC-1701 Enterprise HAS though; and while no, I don't/wouldn't expect an AMT model per se - I would expect that ship to appear as is has/had on ENT or TOS remastered. (IE a modern CGI model of the TOS ship as it appeared on TOS.) <--- If they don't do that, then the show IS NOT in the 'Prime Universe' we fans know. Asd for the internal designs - again, I would expect them to replicate them (again like they did fior TNG and ENT) to a point that they have the same 'The Cage" color scheme and general layout however they render it (with real sets or CGI.)
^^^
If they decide not to do that - then they should just come right out and say this is a FULL re-imagining based on the TOS 'Prime Universe' and not say that teh show is actually set in the TOS 'Prime Universe as they have been.

Again, if they do show the NCC-1701 and it is a departure from what we have seen on TOS remastered and the other shows, it won;'t automatically make the show 'worse' or 'un-watchable', or 'bad'. Old time Fans like me will just concede they decided to intentionally lie about the actual setting for the show (for whatever reason) and go from there.

Nothing in the show so far looks like the TOS version of the so-called "prime timeline," so there's no good reason that the Enterprise should.

Nothing else in the show matches the TOS aesthetic. So why should the Connie?

Because that's how Connie looks!

(Though personally I don't expect or want TOS remastered level faithfulness, adding TMP level surface detail is absolutely fine, just keep the basic shape the same.)

IDK - the ST: D Tricoder, Communicator and Phaser props all VERY WELL match the TOS/"The Cage" aesthetic.

The aesthetic, but not the 1:1 design.

If the connie were to ever be on screen, it would probably be something closer to the Phase II or TMP version.

If they put the Enterprise in, then you know that the STD is tanking with the ratings.

we've seen that with DS9 and VOY bringing characters from other series just to spice up the ratings.

Not just to spice up ratings. "Trials and Tribble-ations" and "Flashback" were made to celebrate 30 years of Star Trek. But appearances by Worf, Riker, the Borg Queen, Q, Lwaxana (I guess), the Duras sisters, and the Ferengi pilots from "The Price" could all be considered ratings stunts to some degree.
