So What Are you Reading?: Generations

I finished the first collected edition of IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series earlier today. I really enjoyed, and I'll post my detailed thoughts over in my comic thread in the regular Sci-Fi & Fantasy forum.

I finished Star Trek: Mind Meld by John Vornholt.
I'm now reading Star Trek: Department of Temporal Investigations: Shield of the Gods by Christopher L. Bennett.

I was flipping through Voyages of Imagination yesterday, and I realized that I don't remember ever reading the stuff about the old TNG/TOS/VOY Starfleet Academy and the DS9 Jake & Nog YA books, so I've been reading through that whole section.

I recently finished listening to the audiobook of Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Campaign by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes. Currently listening to the audiobook of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer.

Just started book 2 of the Millennium trilogy. This is making me really miss "proper" DS9, not the pale imitation we have now. Ever since The Soul Key, the novels just haven't felt like DS9 at all.

I started re-reading Enterprise Live by the code by Christoher L.Bennett

I finished up the reading through the YA section of Voyages of Imagination. I'm so glad they included that stuff in the book, reading through that section really brought back a lot of memories for me.

Etc.

It's comics. Weird is part of the job. There was a time when Godzilla, the Transformers, and 2001: A Space Odyssey were all officially part of the Marvel Universe, in continuity with Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, etc., at least until the licenses ran out. At least these DC/Looney Tunes crossovers are non-canonical.

Personally, I'm in the middle of that special that Time did on John Glenn, a few months back.

It's comics. Weird is part of the job. There was a time when Godzilla, the Transformers, and 2001: A Space Odyssey were all officially part of the Marvel Universe, in continuity with Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, etc., at least until the licenses ran out. At least these DC/Looney Tunes crossovers are non-canonical.

They've been doing tons of crossovers in comics the last few years, including some Trek one like Star Trek/Doctor Who (which is apparently no longer available since IDW lost the DW license) Star Trek/Planet of the Apes (which is actually pretty fun), Star Trek/ Legion of Superheroes, and two Star Trek (Kelvin)/Green Lantern. The Batman '66 comic has crossed over with a whole bunch of other franchises like Steed and Mrs. Peel, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Wonder Woman '77. They also just finished Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes, and they are in the midst of a Wonder Woman '77/Bionic Woman crossover.

We should note that the latter is being scripted by Andy Mangels, a Trek novelist . . . as well as possibly the world's biggest Wonder Woman fan.

Yes. And the old Gold Key ST comics were frequently "weird, but not in a good way," with more than a few stories that seemed like they had to have been written by people who'd never seen the series, and barely had a clue what it was about.

Then again, my own taste in comic books ran more towards The Pink Panther, Super Goof, and Uncle Scrooge (all of which were, by coincidence, Gold Key titles). Along with lots and lots of nice, thick paperbacks of newspaper comic reprints (especially Beetle Bailey* and The Wizard of Id).

Hmm. Super Goof.

Super Goof Meets the Guardians of the Galaxy. Couldn't be any more bizarre than Howard the Duck Meets Donald Duck.
