First Look at Captain Lorca (blurry bridge of DSC)

Very nice uniform. I'm really digging the style. Helps blue is my favorite color. :D

Regarding the uniforms not matching the uniforms in "The Cage," there's real world precedence. The time to do changeover for a new uniform for any service often takes several years before it's fully implemented, just as I experienced when the Navy changed from the utilities (watered-down dungarees) to the Navy Working Uniform (blue camouflage). Hell, we even saw it The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine for each the new uniforms. Space is a large place so it's perfectly reasonable to believe uniforms don't change right away.

Yeah this is exactly what happens in David Mack's Vanguard novel, Harbinger, set after 'Where No Man Has Gone Before'. The people at Vanguard are already in the new uniforms, and the visit to the station means the uniforms then change.

You know, those tunics just do look fairly ridiculous. "Important people in the service wear shiny gold shit a lot, right?"

If they really wanted to ever "reimagine" and rethink Star Trek visually, instead of going for the "what changes are left to ring on the familiar Trek wardrobe" thing they might give some thought to researching and looking at real modern uniforms of various kinds and using those as inspiration.

Or, you know, just walk out on to the street and look around at how people dress when they're trying to get stuff done, and why. That would be a start.

@RAMA Way to miss the point completely on yet another topic. To each his own I guess.
No, I didn't miss any points at all. Just making my own observation. You had a point? Because all I saw was some ridiculous nonsense about older people (he's not that old) not being able to wear colors. :guffaw:

It seems weird to put the detailed glittering on the side belly. You shouldn't put audience focus on an actor's side belly.
As opposed to the shoulders (DS9/Voyager) or the chest (TNG)? :p

One certainly can't deny that the metallic side parts on the Discovery uniform make the wearer look thinner, right?

A dark color on the sides would be slimming, but bright and shiny is anything but.

Quick, someone with far better Photoshop skills than I Photoshop Captain Lorca into The Motion Picture Starfleet uniforms. Then post the original image after. The Discovery Starfleet uniform will look positively brilliant in comparison.

Yeah, the shiny is the opposite of slimming. And putting the emphasis on the chest and shoulders is what you generally want to to do - particularly in TV, that will be part of what frames the actors' faces in most mid and close-up shots.

No.

That's not saying the ST:TMP weren't unattractive.

Yes, Mr. President. Whatever you say.

I was amazed when I found out that there were actually still extras wearing the TNG TV series uniforms in Tears of the Prophets, the Season 6 finale of DS9, long after they'd gone to the black and grays.

TOS, some of the movies. Later on, they would use ill-fitting standard sized uniforms on the cast in the Berman era and they looked terrible.

The "red TWOK tunics sans turtleneck" of TNG were the epitome of this era. When Starfleet signed a uniform contract with Goodwill....

I get a bit of a Picard vibe from him.

Uniforms. Maybe something other than blue would be nice.
