Fear the Walking Dead Season 3 discussion and spoilers.

Fear The Walking Dead...is running out of good stories to tell!


Personally, I would have created "World of the Walking Dead"...make it an anthology, and give people around the world to tell some Walker stories, in different stages, in a style of that region...so Bollywood or Nollywood (Nigeria) might have their own stories, done in their way (but not a Bollywood musical!)...and from that area's perspective, maybe show how the zombie outbreak might be unique.

And after the first season, if there are standout episodes/characters/scenarios, those could be expounded on in another episode (or 2 or 3) in future seasons


Oh -- I have to ask -- did anyone see the Fear webisodes during TWD this season? Do we know if those characters will make an appearance? ANd if so, will they be thrown away like the first webisodes did with the characters introduced there?

My bet is - We see them walking towards the current encampment/settlement fence; and they get shot in the head.

I've been dreaming about that since I first saw Dawn of the Dead in 1979.

I kind of saw them. Some people in a tunnel or whatever. I don't know what their plans are for that. Last year, the woman from the webisodes was supposed to become a character in the series, but she just disappeared.

I think the reason AMC would not produce an anthology is that the showrunners were stuck on the idea of creating some sort of "contrast" to TWD, and what kind of characters lead a show--in other words Madison (over-the-top surly and predatory too early in the ZA timeline) and Nick (series trying to be "edgy" by making a generally self-serving drug addict a "hero"). Travis was never going to be a leader among the characters--he was made weak from the start, then suddenly turn into a murderous psychopath. Besides, according to the showrunners, they planned to kill him off for some time, since this is--after all--the Madison and Nick Show.

Watched two, but the plot sort of drifted off. More humans vs humans, with nothing frightening happening at all.

Sooo much heavy-handed crap in this latest episode of Fear the Dysfunctional Family.

Madison blaming Nick for Travis? I thought she was so desperate to find him...now she comes at him with that accusation? For the first time, Nick earned a bit of sympathy. Just a bit. His "bonding" with Troy the idiot makes sense, but you know its not going to end well.

As usual Strand's story was the most interesting; he's alone in the world and does not (by choice and/or "profession") relate to anyone, so his fight for survival holds the lion's share of the intensity this series needed since the pilot. ..and then, there's a-hole Salazar...

Luciana is the only other character worth following, but right now, she's just Nick's girlfriend.

So, let's see, according to the showrunners, the idea of survivalists must automatically walk hand in hand with--

• Sweeping, negative stereotypes of Christians (as if they are a pack of Timothy McVeigh types...or so the use of McVeigh's image implies)
• They are all a point above being illiterate
• The "Bible study" group are hypocrites, because, you know--drugs and moonshine...come on. This series is just grabbing sub-cultural leanings from all over the place, and throwing it against a wall. Buy a clue, showrunners
• Suggested spousal abuse, because you know...rednecks (that never happens anywhere else in society. Nope)

...and it goes on and on.

So that's supposed to be the contrast that shows how great Madison, Alicia and Nick are. Let's not forget Alicia's mocking behavior at the mere idea of any religious interaction, and I guess she's a badass with playing with the knife like something out of a cheesy teen angst movie from the 50s.

At least the survivalists actually were actually prepared to do just that., but I would not be surprised if this group falls as fast as the allegedly trained military in season one.

And now he's being taunted by Salazar, who apparently survived that conflagration somehow-- unless Strand is hallucinating. After all, what is Salazar even doing there.

The charavters we DO care about are in parts unknown...well Strand, we got like 7 minutes. Salazar? Tobias? Asian American woman from the webisodes?

I don't care about Tobias at all. I didn't even remember him until it was mentioned here.

I've never understood the Tobias love from some viewers. His thinking something was up--or even if he thought the dead were rising does not make him some mystic MVP of the zombie apocalypse in the way some fans view him.

To be fair, no one in the group (perhaps besides Madison) ever really thought highly of Strand. That said, ATM, I don't think anyone thinks highly of either Nick or Madison.

During season 1, Nick seemed to get along with Strand, but the rest--the Clarks and Salazars--were a pack of ungrateful assholes.

Strand is interesting and charming, but definitely a user. Nick can be interesting, such as when he was developing an affinity for the dead. The other characters are pretty standard. I was disappointed that the Asian woman disappeared after she was supposed to become a regular.

This series does not seem to know how to create characters that are not completely screwed up. There's no redemption for Daniel when he begs for it, then turns on anyone not serving his needs. His motivations do no one else any good, yet the showrunners still try to paint him as a "dark" hero.

This show isn't very interesting because we've seen it all before. I have to wonder if the zombie plague is having as much luck in the northern regions. I would imagine that the zombies would freeze solid and could be "killed" at leisure. At the very least ice and snow would slow them down. A snow shoe posse could do a little search and destroy every so often to keep them in check.

While a northern and/or snowy location would be interesting, somehow, I feel the production company has decided to keep the location in the American southwest, which can be a boring setting after a time.

The Daniel Salazar episode was really good.

"It may be the Apocalypse, but it's not Communism." It's good to have priorities.

Well, now we know what Salazar has been up to since the last time we saw him, if not exactly how he escaped-- just that he "somehow survived" when everyone else died. He was obviously severely traumatized, both physically and by the thought that he had killed Ophelia, otherwise a guy like him would have managed to be more self sufficient. But he got lucky a few times and managed to ingratiate himself with El Presidente and almost went back to his old ways-- before shooting El Presidente in the head and saving all those people. Except for that one guy who had the bad luck to be first in line. Now what, I wonder? Will he take over, or make his escape to look for Ophelia?

I found the scene where he was saved by the dog very interesting. It's always seemed to me that we don't see enough animals in the Zombie Apocalypse, especially in the main show-- you'd think they'd be packs of feral dogs by then, plus lots of other animals encroaching on civilization, and I wonder why there isn't. Did the Zombies somehow manage to eat them all? That dog ran away when the Zombie turned in his direction and there's no way a Zombie could catch an animal that didn't want to be caught. Well, a bunch of them did corner a horse one time, but that wouldn't happen too often.

Real world...it would cost way too much. Only a movie like I am Legend was able to pull that off.

Our fanboy rationalization could be that domesticated animals aren't tough enough to survive or find food that man packed away.

The tough ones are far away from dense population of walkers.

And this just reminded me of yet another missed opportunity for Fear...as this is supposed to be early in the Apocalypse, there should be HOARDS of walkers...and at this stage , PLENTY of fans who would flyover for FREE to be a zombie extra. Wow..just realized whAt a wasted opportunity!!!

I thought that was really cool moment. It might be the most religious thing we have ever seen on the show. It's one of those moments in life were you wonder if God has had a hand in helping you. In reality it is most likely just luck or just some random occurence but it still makes you think about it for a minute.
