They forget everything. You'd be surprised how easy it is to shoot down every argument that the Abrams films aren't "Star Trek" by pointing out the same exact thing happening in prior series.

Most of us young whippersnappers (checks receding hair, white in beard and parental status....um....) are from what is now being called 'The Berman Era'. We can't remember the purist wars of 87, because we never fought in them.

To me it's like, do I want some Trek now and some Trek later? Or do I want all the Trek later? I take the former.

For me, I simply can't binge on a series all the time, if at all. I don't have the time to do it, and I like the feeling of having some time in between to absorb what I've seen, to be able to appreciate it.

Good gosh! I was 15 during those heady times of Trek in 1987! The Voyage Home was coming out and you had the huge controversy about TNG coming! Photos of TOS cast with big captions splashed over them: "They're Out!" with the TNG photo below it and a caption, "They're in, and fans are furious!"

I guess I should escort myself to a Klingon penal colony. I subscribed to CBSAA the day after it was announced that Discovery would air there. And to make matters worse, I have no intention of cancelling between season 1 and 2...or for that matter, any season. Oh the humanity.

I may be old, grizzled, and senile...but streaming in general is where it's all headed. CBS may be the first network to attempt this, I highly doubt it will be the last. The landscape is changing, I can choose to fight a losing battle, or choose to adapt. And my life is far too short now to be fighting loosing battles. For me, I'll remain focused on the quality of the show. Good characters, good stories, good Star Trek.

This 'old person' was 25 in 1987 when TNG came on the air and the OVERWHELMING response of most TOS era fans after the TNG pilot "Encounter At Farpoint" aired was:
"This was the best they could come up with - a grown up 'Squire of Gothos' character vs an old man (a Frenchman with a British accent...), who hates kids, but Star Fleet gives him a ship with families aboard, a Kirk-like wannabe, a rehashed version of Ilia from ST:TMP, the android from the failed 'Questor Tapes' pilot trying to be 'Mr. Spock', a blonde version of 'Pvt. Vasquez' from 'Aliens'(the film was released in 1986), a Blind navigator, Female Doctor, a know-it-all kid, and one of the Turtle-headed version Klingons as a crewmember?"

Oh, and the mood wasn't helped when the preview of the following episode: "The Naked Now" had more re-hashed elements and was a remake of the original TOS episode "The Naked Time". We had nothing but reruns for 18 years previous, and the pilot rehashes elements from "Squire of Gothos" and the first 'regular/new' episode is a remake??...

And the funny thing is that most of these points are actually true to some extent. I'm so glad The Next Generation had the chance to become it's own thing. Also, some of the weird things in the beginning of a show sometimes end up being the things you like most about the series or the characters. Too bad today's productions don't get as much time to “get good”.

All of the networks and cable channels have streaming services, since I tend to work evenings it's how I watch most of my TV, but none of the others make you pay for them. ABC and The CW even have their own streaming only shows, that you can watch for free.

As I alluded to up thread, package deals will become the norm. Streaming package services already exist and there will be mergers and partnerships and all-out buyouts. To that end, I fully expect either Apple or Amazon to nick Hulu within the next five years.

Or it could be Comcast, depending on how neutrality goes. ISPs might see it in their best interest to try and control the medium, the content, and the delivery method.

Anyway, the idea of a la carte streaming will probably never really come true, especially once they figure out how to reliably force advertising. (And they will.) I's more profitable for it not to because; like the current cable/satellite system, companies can force consumers into paying for content they never use.

Interestingly, Comcast has actually merged Netflix functionality into their cable box so if you have a Netflix account you can navigate it using the cable box.

All of the networks and cable channels have streaming services, since I tend to work evenings it's how I watch most of my TV, but none of the others make you pay for them. ABC and The CW even have their own streaming only shows, that you can watch for free.

You have to have a cable subscription though................you pay one way or another.
