September 24th premier!

The reality is that if they didn't take a break, the premiere date would be later. If they're on, what, episode 7 or 8(?) at the moment, I doubt they would have the full season finished and good to go by September.
Even in the "old days" before shorter seasons, STNG and other shows would take a Christmas hiatus. This would last 4-6 weeks in most cases.

In accounts of filming, actors would mention filming stopping for the Xmas break and how usually the energy level before this was low.

RAMA you stop that "making sense" bullshit RIGHT NOW!

I'm going to sign up for multiple subscriptions just to spite the cranky bastards who are spouting the foolishness about how it's a crime against humanity to charge $6 a month to watch a show from a franchise I love as much as anything besides my family and friends.

I'm going to keep paying my $6.00 a month, as well as buy a Star Trek item from the CBS store to prove that I spend money on Trek, dammit!

A short hiatus of 3-6 weeks is fine and normal, especially if you can air supplementary content (such as Discovery: Confidential) in the meantime. A four-month break, or two half seasons, is nothing short of insane and should be prosecuted to the fullest extant of the law.

Oh, for fuck's sake. They're still going to force a break on a show that only has 15 episodes in the season? Ugh.
I called it September 6, 2016 in the USA distribution -CBS All Access discussion thread.
So business-wise It is a minimum 4 month CBSAA subscription for USA viewers.

CBS could be very greedy and release one a week, then insert a mid-season winter break which lasts 4 weeks...stretching things out to 5 or 6 months. It has not been discussed before but is possible.
and this is what CBS is counting on:
CYNICAL VIEWPOINT: It's an online only (well mostly) show. Doing a season consisting of 15 episodes...... This feels more like a ploy to squeeze extra months out of peoples wallets for their streaming service that I absolutely have no interest in using outside of this show.
They are going to count on many people who are Trek fans to not cancel their CBSAA subscription for 2 months depending on the actual date and then resubscribe due to the hassle which means another $12. from each subscriber...
I really am wondering now about season 2 and if it will start in August next year and go without a mid-season break or if they will do the same thing?

The only people who won't cancel during the mid-season break and re-up when DSC returns are the people who just don't care that much about this streaming model or who find other things on CBSAA to justify their subscription.

Trust me, the people who are pissed off about CBSAA won't forget to cancel during the break if they subscribe at all. Pissed off Trekkies don't forget anything. (...except the things they were pissed off about ten years ago....)

To me, it would be a huge pain in the bottom to subscribe, unsubscribe, subscribe, unsubscribe.

I am increasingly tempted to sign up for CBSAA and immediately cancel, just to see how long that entire process would take start to finish. Less than one minute?

AND I NEEDED THAT MINUTE TO WRITE A POST ABOUT HOW AWFUL DISCOVERY WILL BE

:bolian:

I've signed up and since canceled. It literally takes like one minute.

The shock troops probably just haven't reached your house yet. Buried in the terms of service: if you ever cancel, you must submit to a savage beating. Damn you, CBS! These bastards will do anything for another $6...
Also your credit score will drop 200 points and your driver's license will be revoked. Should've read the fine print! :wah:

My whole thing was like WOW A STAR TREK STREAMING SERIES...they've finally gotten with the times. It'll be dumped on XYZ date and we can watch sparingly or binge through it if we want (the appeal of a streaming show in the first place)!

Ok...it's going to be on CBS ALL ACCESS and they're going to go the episode a week route, ok there are a handful of shows that do distribute it this way. Not the most ideal way, takes away some of the streaming excitement but hey I can deal lets do this.

Oh now we're going to run the streaming show like a network television show and take the holiday hiatus like everyone else...ummmm ok i'm still looking forward to this but the suits at CBS do know this kind of defeats the majority of the pros of streaming right.

Yeah, I'd rather get a few episodes soon and take a break, than have to wait all the way until next year.
The vast majority of shows take a break over the holidays, so I don't have a problem with Discovery doing it, even if it is streaming rather than on TV.
My feelings exactly. That "free" episode on CBS had better be really fucking good, or else I just be waiting for it to show up on a streaming service somewhere and binge the whole season. Which is actually a better way to watch shows that have short seasons like this.
Then you'll probably either have to wait several years, or forever. This is meant to be CBSAA's signature show, so I really doubt that they'll be putting it on another streaming service any time in the near future, if ever. The main reason the show is even around is to bring people to CBSAA, so it would kind of defeat the whole purpose of the show if they just put it up on a competing service after it airs. The only reason they're showing it on Netflix in other countries is because they don't have CBS (or at least this CBS) so it was the best option available for them. The only way I could maybe see it showing up on Netflix is if CBSAA fails, but Discovery is still successful enough to continue.

I started subbing to Netflix in preparation for discovery last year when they announced it and put all the Trek on. I wanted to be ready for January....have kept the sub going, so it's all worked out ok, as the Mrs can watch her house of cards, and I am still ready for discovery, while Marathoning Ghostbusters cartoons and starting killjoys.
