September 24th premier!

It was everywhere I'll make sure to use APA citations next time news breaks.....
Not everyone is going to be "everywhere" at once. I clearly hadn't seen the news yet and I wasn't looking for it. Is it really that hard to spend a few seconds longer to include the link your post?

In that case, I would point out Doctor Who has done mid-season breaks with 13 episode long seasons, though since that was part of a failed experiment maybe I shouldn't.
True, although I really hated when that happened and I'm pretty sure that hurt the show's ratings.

This ain't FX.
Which is a damn shame. I have far more confidence in FX than I do in CBS and their crappy Access release model.

For some of us old timers with large families, and an approaching holiday season that seems to never leave enough time to sleep, no less watch TV, I'm very appreciative of the break in the schedule. It's great to have priemer date, let's get this party started.

Plus new "American Gods" episodes will probably be airing again on that nignht around the same time. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! ;)
Considering American Gods just aired its season finale last night, I highly doubt that. Season 2 will most likely air next year.

Let me first say I'm immensely excited we live in a world with a confirmed premiere date for a Star Trek show again. It's been too damn long. I was 13 the last time it happened.

Unfortunately, September 24th is a bad date. I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy, so I hate to be the one to prove a previous poster's prediction correct that someone would come in here and rain on a parade. But I'm just not sure about this timeslot. It's running from 8:30-9:30PM according to the official website. A funky slot by any reckoning, but it's also following a 90-minute premiere of 60 Minutes, itself a paradoxical statement. Heh. But seriously, though, CBS wants fresh faces on this franchise -- young folks who are hip on streaming and want to fork over cash for premium content. I cannot think of a less millennial-focused show than 60 Minutes. Besides, uh, it might not even be 8:30 since football is airing throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Now, a football lead-in would deliver stellar numbers, and a timeslot shift would be fine. But there's another show sandwiched in-between, and plenty of those football eyes will have shut off their televisions by then.

It's just not a strong slot.

The Good:
1) I am excited to have a premiere date.
2) I am excited that we will have a second episode available on CBS All Access immediately after the premiere.

The Bad:
1) No getting around it. The show is only 15 episodes. I had hoped to avoid a break.
2) I have no intention of keeping All Access during the break. Cancelling and resubscribing is going to be a minor annoyance.

I consider the bad to be minor trade offs for having a new Star Trek show.

CYNICAL VIEWPOINT: It's an online only (well mostly) show. Doing a season consisting of 15 episodes...... This feels more like a ploy to squeeze extra months out of peoples wallets for their streaming service that I absolutely have no interest in using outside of this show.

But you can just as well cancel at the mid-season break and re-up when it returns. I think it has more to do with wanting to get out some episodes sooner, take a break, then finish up the remainder of the season rather than make everyone wait even longer while they finish the whole run of episodes.

I think the only way to avoid that winter break would be to release it in the spring when more episodes are finished.

Or to try to get people who'd wait for the whole thing to binge at once to consider ponying up twice. However, I'm sure the real answer is that it lets them catch up on production but get something out the door first.
