My theory on why Kes wasn't a more beloved character. Also opinion on Lien. post-"Voyager."

Problem is at the end of "Before and After" their is a mention that she is going to talk to Janeway about the Krenim. Janeway should have know about them when they first meet in "Year of Hell." One option though is when the timeship is destroyed it means the past, before Voyager encounters Krenim is also changed which means the entire series of "Voyager" might have been altered so the events of "Year of Hell" didn't happen like it did in "Before and After" but happened in a new altered way like it did in "Year of Hell." When we first see "Year of Hell" the entire timeline has already been altered but then it is altered yet again to what we see at the end of the episodes.

There was definately some altering. Before and After is based on Kes being present durring year of hell and beinf infected with radiation. In the main timeline she left before those events so she wasn't infected so she didn't warn janeway

But, the point stands that it does happen. Individuals have emotional reactions over different things, from TV shows (MASH's finale) to sports teams.

Perhaps judging an individual's mental state from posting on a BBS is in poor taste.

I've given up on starting threads. I've done like 5 or 6. I thought they were inspired and original, and interesting enough to last...but they always quietly die after a page or two...

Yeah, I feel your pain. From someone who has done both type it is ALWAYS the bitchy threads that have legs.

One day I plan on sitting with a pen and paper to suss out how the Hanson expedition, ENT's Regeneration, TNG's The Neutral Zone & Q Who, and First Contact all fit together.

I'm reasonably sure they don't but I will find a way.

Well based on Seven's age, it always seemed to me, that her parents knew about the Borg long before the Federation did. That is to say before Q threw Picard's Enterprise into Borg territory.

Maybe the Hansons were Q's first attempt at 'throw humans headfirst at the Borg for character building purposes,' but they turned out to be way more stupid than he'd estimated.

He was so irritated by the outcome, that he didn't try again for another 300 years.

All his criticisms in Farpoint about humanity being barbarians...he's mocking their Federation ideals and trying to point out their hypocrisy(from his POV) He thinks they've become boring and wants to bring a little action back in their lives. So the Borg, and all the big wars that follow-is what Q wants. It's through these that Humanity will progress and evolve.

He may have been right. By the time of Nemesis, Humanity developed so far technologically, that there's no more stories to tell! It's now only a matter of time before Humans become a timelording, transwarp beaming technological superpower.

It's the internet. Everything stir's the pot these days. Plus if you noticed this thread when started was less about the Kes character and more about asking if certain type of character's don't work with a Trek or Sci-FI audience and my opinion that the Kes character was into one of those unpopular arctypes.

We all have our own styles I just picked up on a trend, certainly it is your right. There is an inference, more a conclusive part of how some of us phrase things. Like the 'my theory' is cool but then if one says Kes (or it could be any of them) 'wasn't a more beloved character' therein lies the sticking point because it is so definite when being beloved is not just one person's call. Introducing the actress....well, here we go! The certain type of character fitting into a Sci Fi audience/archetype aspect wouldn't have made for such an eye-catching topic header.

Way-back-when, he mentioned the end goal is for us to ascend to near Q-dom status one day. Human's skill at innovation seems to be the path. We were on trial to determine if that should be nipped in the bud for everyone else's sake.

(Come to think of it, our supposed evolutionary destiny was established in the TOS pilot. Talk about a delayed follow-up.)

Anyway, he obviously decided to let us slide. Maybe he wants company when he's picking on monkeys.

While it's true that some people love the Kes character sometimes you go with what you think the overall opinion is.
Another thing that creates a little conflict is if you are intrested in things that are not seen as normal or you try and find new ways to think about things. This is what happens when you have a life like mine were I don't have a job or many friends. You actually think about things alot and you anyalize things to death. Toss in some OCD and frankly you get a brain that never shuts up.

In My head canon....in first contact a few drones made it to earth. We saw this in enterprise (or something like that...dr flox had someone who was assimilated) the hansons heard about this and wanted to find out more about the rumors of those cybernetic beings
