This whole part of the conversation is kind of a sidebar.

Hm, I disagree. It's actually pretty well done. The colors and lighting match perfectly and the vanishing points of the real set and the matte painting even converge on the same horizon. Which makes it look like the corridor is just slightly bent sideways; which makes sense. The forced perspective fail is strong in this one. /sidebar
It's true that this prevents it from being even worse. It looks like they were careful to obey this constraint, but IMO just closing the whole area off (edit - I mean covering the painting; it was a painting?) would have worked better.the vanishing points of the real set and the matte painting even converge on the same horizon
I liked the ship design in Passengers
The beige padded look was very common in the 1970's. I think it originated in 2001: A Space Odyssey, but it may have been around even earlier.
Okay, since you won't post pictures to prove your point, I'll post pics to disprove them.
First, let's see a few TNG pics...

To discuss cushioned sets, go back past Alien to 2001 (as @Jesse1066 beat me to the reference...)

There also seems to be quite a bit of beige there.
Meanwhile, Alien (in the living quarters particularly, which is what I assume you're talking about) seems to have more of a white/off-white color scheme to it as opposed to the beige of TNG...

The only thing I can remotely see from Dark Matter that looks similar to TNG is the corridor as presented here:

But, really, while I can see that, it actually harkens back to the design as first put out in TMP:

However, I can see some influence in Klingon design as well on this ship. But again, that goes all the way back to TMP...

That was kind of the point of Passengers, but I'll let you see it yourself.
Edit: Working to shrink some images. Sorry about that.
Edit #2: And done. Let me know if they need to be even smaller.
I can't post images. It's crashed three times typing these words. Short version: yes. Tng is the link in the chain, which with other things, is clearly an influence on Dark Matter. Dialogue and the Android character particularly. The chain goes right back, probably to Thunderbirds and TOS.
Weren't we talking about design? Now you're talking about dialogue and an android?
Again, I've never seen Dark Matter (nor do I really care to) so I can't really speak to dialogue. But androids have been around since before TOS and Thunderbirds and certainly before TNG. Apparently it was part of a story in the 1880s but the word goes back 20 years before that.
As for the link in the chain concept, I think it's fair to suggest that a show was influenced by certain things, but to suggest that because they utilize them because a style is coming back is a step too far.
As for pictures, you can always post a link. With your crashing, what browser and OS are you using?
iOS. Safari. This site is currently a nightmare.
I see 2001's influence in TNG's Ent-D interiors.
But Alien's influence on them? No.
The patterns in the padded walls are practically overbearing in their weirdness, almost like it's telegraphing that we're in a horror film.Alien is much more of an industrial look than either TNG or 2001. Even in the living areas, it just feels completely different than either.

If you absolutely have to use iOS (and can't get behind a computer instead), try Chrome. Much better browser. That's what I use when I'm on my iPhone and I rarely have problems with this site. In fact, I posted this from Chrome in iOS.
First you were talking about "beige, cushioned surfaces etc." being "heavily influenced."Tng corridors are TMP corridors. They are seventies sf influenced, but pretty much a Trek thing from TMP.
Aliens influence is in the design stage of the bridge, and what eventually becomes the more traditional Star Trek obs room. The move to curves, the beige scheme...the 'working in space' goes through Blue Collar sci-fi into TNGs technology unchained ideas...you can see other influences in the space jellyfish corridors of encounter at farpoint. There are interviews where watching Alien, Aliens and BladeRunner are all discussed as influences in the early stages of TNG development.
Not a fan of google, and it's as bad on my android phone.
Well, that's a personal problem. I have no issues myself. Don't know what to tell you.

Now, you're talking about space jellyfish interiors and just broadly early stages of development.
I couldn't even see the goalpost, it warped by so fast.
