Wonder Woman (2017)

I thought that Wonder Woman was an attempt to legitimize Bill's aberrant (polygamous) lifestyle, and subliminally advertising the polygraph machine that he had invented?
There is something about bondage too.

Am I the only one who is a little perplexed that they are trying to fit the complexity of WWI in the bad guys/good guys trope? Usually Hollywood preferred WWII stories, because there is more easy to find a good cinematic villain...

Do you not know who is the villain?
It's
Ares, she's fighting War itself, not just one side of the conflict.

Yes, I know. In any case it's evident that the Americans are the good guys and the Germans/Austrians the bad ones.

But Diana doesn't know about the larger war from the get go, when Steve is claiming that the kaiser will not stop until he has conquered the universe (not a quote), so she really has to help him.

By modern standards Bill and his wives are quite vanilla.

The new trailer was pretty cool. I'm glad they're actually letting this one be lighter with more fun.
How did Synder "ruin" Superman? By making him a complex individual, instead of a cardboard fictional hero?
His version of Superman is almost the complete opposite of the comic book version, and a lot of people are disappointed in that. I don't think there's a problem with exploring a darker Superman in general, but it was a mistake to make it the movies' default version.

I don't think so. Not with fans already anticipating the November release of "Justice League".
Sure some fans, and others are hoping that it can repair the damage done by the earlier movies.

I think Warner Bros. should stop longing for critical approval. They're wasting their time. If they continue to worry about what the critics will say, they'll end up trying to imitate the MCU's house style. And that is the wrong thing to do, in my opinion. Regardless of the bashing, their past three movies had made a good deal of money for them and have attracted a great number of fans. They should really continue doing things their way without worrying about the critics
.
It's not just the critics, the fan reaction has been very mixed too. Sure there are a lot of people that like them, but there are also a lot of people who really, really don't. The first few movies had enough of a draw to get people to come back, Man of Steel was the first movie in the series, so people didn't know what to expect, BvS had the draw of the first Batman and Superman meetup on screen, and Suicide Squad had great trailers. But we're now entering into a fool me once shame on me, fool me twice or three times shame on me.
I actually did like all three movies so far, but I know they aren't perfect by any means, and most of the criticisms against them have been entirely fair.
This post is entirely my honest opinion has not been influenced, encouraged, or paid for by anyone from Marvel Comics, Marvel Studios or Disney.

I gather that's just a rumor so far.

Indeed, it hasn't been officially confirmed, but
it has been confirmed that Ares is in it, and other than Thewlis we already know whom everybody else plays, so it's a very strong rumour.

Quoting myself to add other similarities to Steve (Rogers) and Diana.

Baron Zemo - Baroness Von Gunther

Master Man - Captain Nazi

Vita Rays - Purple Ray

Secret Identity US Army Grunt - Secret Identity US Army Typist

The Stars and Stripes Uniforms

Mighty Shields, whom all those who oppose must yield!

Isn't the shield a new thing added by the movies? I don't remember a shield being a part of her usual equipment.

No. She's had the sword, shield and armor look for decades now. The lasso is just the most famous piece in her arsenal, because it's so unique.

Diana is traditionally linked with WWII, but Marvel beat them to the punch with that just six years ago. I think WWI works just as well with the type of story they seem to be trying to tell, though.

Thing about them using WWI instead of WWII...this movie is also supposed to explain why Diana grew disgusted with Humanity and basically stepped away from everything for about 100 years.

In that context, using WWI works better than WWII because in the end WWI really had no actual good guys and bad guys. It was just a big bloody tragedy that had no happy ending for anyone. It's the perfect set-up for why Diana gave up, when all's said and done and she looks back she'd think "These people died for no reason. This world was ravaged for years for no real cause, no one was any better than the other. Why should I bother anymore?"
